A whole new world and many opportunities - all available for grabs. By:
Hi there,
Well, the year 2002 is my second year... and in 2003 it'll be 3 years since I came to Toronto from India.
Lets start with my first day. It was snowing in Toronto that day and it was just beautiful since it was also the first time in my life that I had seen snowfall.
My next 6 months were very bitter sweet. I was happy to be here but had a bad time looking for a job in my field. For one day I remember unloading boxes from a trailor, for the other I went to Tim Hortin's and McDonald looking for work only to be asked to came back again. I also tried my hand in telemarketing for a local home-run company and worked there for 2 months. After this I moved to a well known telemarketing company in downtown and worked there for about a week.
While I was doing odd jobs to make ends meet, I was also doing a lot of volunteer work and volunteering for various projects with a number of organisations in Downtown Toronto. I was also looking for a job actively and never lost an oppurtunity to do networking and search for more options.
Finally after 8 months I found a job in a well known Telecom Company as a Technical Support Analyst. It was fantastic ever since.... I got promoted after 6 months to a Senior Analyst and now last month I am going up in the food chain once again.
The journey so far has not been easy. It was taken a lot of hard work, long hours at my job, dedication and a constant effort to learn and improve.
I've not had a chance to travel around Canada yet nor have I seen everything around here but I am sure as time passes by I will come to know more about this place, it's people and the culture.
Regards,
Vik
