Hello : I have been approached by one of my old school friends to give her an invitation letter to visit canada as tourist. Though I know her but dont know her too well...

What is the risk I am bearing when I invite her ? What will I be responsible for and what can go on my record ? Say if she does not go back, does it affect me or she does some business deals on tourist visa ?

Also anther scenario : My cousin has applied for immigration to Canada and needs to show relatives in canada and is asking for my citizenship card and passport copy..is it ok to send that ? Again shes my cousin but i dont know her husband well.

Thanks !

We in good faith send a few invitations to good friends to visit us and also stay with us and I footed a lot of bills for other fees for CN Tower etc., and when they reach back they write and thank us all profusely. We do all of this to put up a good show and there ends the trip and the responsibility that goes with it. BUT, I always tell them to get here with proper INSURANCE for their duration of their TRIP and travels till they all return back safe and sound. Also carry a few dollars for other expenses if they have any other needs and purchases. A few of them even borrowed a few bucks and also gave us in Indian Currency whenever we visited them back. That is par for the course.

There were NO Incidents and we did not have to welsh or default so far and our records are in GOOD STANDING. Cross your fingers.
edit.
Some might collect data and also contact a few other people for work, business etc., at that time please tell them to keep such activities outside your premises and at a Timmies or at a Buffet or outside in the open. (Park etc.,) Wish them Good Luck. Ask them to keep a low profile.

So, knowing the people and their standing etc., you be the judge and provide them with the Most Upto date Requirements and ask them to comply with them. No fire arms, No drugs etc., to go with it too. Hopefully everything will fall in place and it works out well for you too.

Don't Worry...!

NOW, to the second part. There is NO Requirements for you to provide your COUSIN with any of the Passport Copy or your Citizenship papers also. Because, they do not qualify for any points with you being here in Canada, other than a pick up from the airport, if they land close to you or for a few nights stay here and even that if you want to. That is your choice.. Please quote the material provided to you under this. That should work.

Hope this helps.

FH.

RELATIVE IN CANADA & CANADIAN IMMIGRATION
Did you know: If you, or your accompanying spouse has a relative in Canada it could make it easier for you to qualify for programs like the Federal Skilled Worker program? Your relative will need to be either a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident in order to claim them on your application but not all relatives will award points so it is important to know the facts.

TYPES OF RELATIVES ELIGIBLE FOR POINTS:
Mother or Father
Son or daughter
Niece or Nephew
Grandmother or Grandfather
Aunt or Uncle
Grandchild
Brother or Sister
You will note that cousins and close friends are not included on the list and hence are not eligible to award additional points.*

IS MY RELATIVE IN CANADA SPONSORING ME FOR IMMIGRATION?
Please understand that having a relative in Canada like the ones listed above does not make you eligible for Canadian Immigration. This is not spousal or parental sponsorship. Your relative is not sponsoring you; they are not taking responsibility for you in any way with the immigration authorities and they are not the reason you are eligible. If you are eligible to apply it is because of your own credentials and work experience. Having a relative in Canada simply adds 5 points to your application under the adaptability factor, which can help push your application above the FSW program?s 67 point pass mark.

It is important to note that your relative must be living in Canada in order to claim points. You will have to prove that they are your biological relative with documentation like birth certificates, proof they are actually residing in Canada (a lease or recent utility bill will suffice) and proof of that they are either a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

SPOUSAL AND PARENTAL SPONSORSHIP:
Unless your relative in Canada is a spouse, common-law partner or your adult child, most likely, they cannot sponsor you to come here. Having a friend or other type of relative who is willing to ?sponsor? you to come to Canada is NOT possible under Canada?s current immigration system.

Spousal sponsorship is the category in which you would sponsor a spouse, common-law partner or dependent child and processing times for these applications vary depending on which country the foreign spouse is applying from.

Parental sponsorship is also a valid category of immigration where an adult child can sponsor their parents or grandparents to come to Canada provided the Canadian child has been living in Canada for at least 3 years and can demonstrate sufficient financial assets. The quota for this program is very low and often fills up quickly so if you are interested in this category it?s best to contact us and we can begin working on the application well before the program opens up on January 1st, 2015.
