Sponsor Parent

I applied to sponsor my parent in 2010. since then I got married and have 2 kids. once I notified CIC about changes I've got a letter that my application needs to be reassessment for specific year and I am eligible to add my husband as a co-signer. How would you do Financial Evaluation? Will it be based on requirement at the time I applied or new requirements? I am referring to Low Income Cutoff or Low Income Cutoff plus 30%. In my assumption I should be based on requirements at the time I applied.

tnx

As an FYI, the process is changing for 2017. It's now going to be a lottery based system.

Reproduced from the CIC website....

The 2017 application package will be available on January 3, 2017. However, there is a new process in place for the PGP program in 2017.

If you want to sponsor your parents or grandparents, your first step will be to fill out a short online form to let us know you're interested in sponsoring.

You have 30 days (from January 3, 2017 at noon until February 2, 2017 noon Eastern Standard Time) to submit the online form. Sometime after February 2, we will choose 10,000 entries at random and invite those people to apply.

They are coming up with all kinds of gimmicks to tell the Sponsors that it is done through a draw system. (I lost my RSS feed there from them )

Thanks for posting it to the board. Now I also know the same.

News you can use.. : Immigrants peeved by federal governments switch to sponsorship lottery.

Just before Christmas, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announced an overhaul of the intake process for the 2017 parent and grandparent sponsorship program.

Instead of continuing the old system that usually saw spots run out within days, officials have adopted a lottery system to award the spots and will randomly draw 10,000 individuals from the pool and invite them to submit full applications. Please Read On....

Federal governments refusal to let widow into Canada 'out of line'... :

Since 2015, Chavez Ruizs family in Toronto has made three failed attempts to get her a visa to visit Canada and couldn't figure out why until an MP made an inquiry on their behalf. Carolina Delgado (left) and her husband Christopher Campbell-Durufle (right) hope Delgado's mother, Ofelia Chavez Ruiz, arrives in Canada in time to see the birth of their first child. Fri., Jan. 6, 2017

For 18 months, Christopher Campbell-Durufle has been trying to convince immigration officials that his mother-in-law in Colombia is a legitimate traveller with no intent to overstay her welcome in Canada.

Since 2015 the Toronto man has made three failed attempts to help Ofelia Chavez Ruiz obtain a visitor visa to see him and his wife but could not figure out the reasons for the rejections, which occurred despite documentation showing the 76-year-old womans strong ties and desire to return to her homeland.

However, Campbell-Durufle said a recent response from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to an MP on his familys behalf might have explained the real reason for such decisions.
