Here are some dates for a frame of reference. Note that Hindu traditions were progressive and tolerated new movements ( including atheists ) originated from within. Yes, Hinduism has its problems - caste system, superstitious beliefs, rituals, to name a few. However it is also progressive enough to change with time and shed its bad elements.
Buddhism - Buddha left Hindu traditions and formed it in 500 BCE (2,500 years ago)
Jainism - Lord Mahavir formed it in 500 BCE (2,500 years ago)
Charvaka - atheist movement broke from Hindu tradition in 600 BCE (2,600 years ago)
Sikhism - Guru Nanak left Hindu traditions in 1500 CE (500 years ago)
Islam - Muhammad formed the religion in 610 CE (1,400 years ago)
Anyone who can think logically should be able to see that Hindus don't care who follow or leave the way of life. You can choose your god and your way of worshiping it, as long as you are not hurting others. If you don't wish to believe in a god, that is okay too. Jio aur jine do.
