Scope for MS in telecommunications in Canada for an EXTC degree holder?

I know that my previous degree will not really hold up when i apply for a job after my masters.
Mainly i would like to get an insight into the telecommunications industry of canada and how open are they to Indians like me , Power systems, optical fibre communications and all seem to intrest me. But yes very honestly i want to have an idea about the scope, i am to apply to USF, U of Alberta, U of waterloo, McGill university.

GRE and TOEFEL- giving both in october
B.tech EXTC final CGPA- 2.68/4
12th grade - 80%
10th grade - 80%

No work expierence

Also how do i go about sending emails to professors in my field, where could i start from?

So, my beloved fellow brother and sisters, please do REPLY ASAP as i need to buck up in my preparations in order to crack this :)

Thank you and Gold bless

Look for better placements after the completion of the course.

Telecom Industry in India is currently one of the biggest ones after the Banking, Petro, the entertainment and the key transport industries. Getting a good basic foundation in one such profession and in a very high ranking post is an enviable one. I want to wish you all the best for making your entry into it.

The question that enters my mind is will you be getting the Overseas 50L package or the local Indian 20L with a few benefits after all of this extraneous efforts that you will be making to get into this field. There are no blue eyed boys or girls here and it is only based upon the due merits, currently. So, you will have to work extra hard and walk over a few of your own colleagues to make it to the top.

You have done your initial spade work. Here is my take too. Telecommunications are an area of growth and being technology intensive provide sufficient job options for technical resources, hence the scope of telecom engineering is good. Pre-requisites to participating in a masters programme in Canada is a four year bachelors degree with high academic standing equivalent to a minimum mid-B grade in Canada. It is good to have at least two academic letters of reference; and other qualifications as specified, ie, TOEFL, GRE general and/or subject test. Masters programmes generally require two years to complete full time, and usually require a combination of course work and thesis. The most popular colleges in Canada are the University of Waterloo, University of British Columbia, University of Toronto, University of Western Ontario, MCGill University, York University and Centennial College. Also see RYERSON ans see if the all do have a Co-Op program that you can get into. Most Indian students who pursue their engineering in Canada opt for the University of Waterloo, Ontario, University of Toronto, Ontario and MCGill University, Montreal, Quebec. (Please get to know a little bit of French, if you decide to go to Quebec.)

Dear full house
Thank you for the information full house.

So are you saying that China for Msc in multimedia and telecomm is a better prospect than my dream Canada or is it just a suggestion?

Also , would you have any idea on what colleges in Canada are really well established and known in the telecommunication sector?

Would you think that along with my above mentioned grades it is likely to get into a good university? Because that is my criteria at home( the good university)

Awaiting reply :)

I was astonished to see a Sardarji speaking fluent Mandarin in Hongkong. Not knowing the capacity one possesses, I do not venture into saying that you will be at a loss if and when you enter into China for your Masters Degree.

Taking a deeper look into the infrastructure that we have here in the North American Continent for the manufacture of these Mobile Devices for the G5 units, which is None to Zero here, you might derive a lot of benefits if you get to see how fast the technology is spreading there in China. I will provide you with a brief from my research and you enjoy the same in your free time.

Waterloo tops the local Universities here and if perchance you do get into a Co-Op System for the duration here you will come up on the positive side in the Financial World. You can also try Ryerson and see if they have the COOP there also. Since you will be busy till October with the Exams, you can do your search for the same after that.

Alternately, go for the BIG DATA sources or CLOUD COMPUTING in a better location like Texas, in USA. It being a part of the same branch, will place you in the higher demand side where ever you land after your Degree. You can also pick up a little German and get into a good location and join a University there and get FREE Masters Degree in Two years and also some practical knowledge from that location. They are good too. Explore all the avenues that are open to you. (Please see some of my older postings on these topics, on the CD.) There is a ton of materials available to browse and use here.

The advanced materials such a GORILLA GLASS, KARL ZEISS Telephoto lens, miniature hard drives, Scanning devices etc., are getting developed there in China and getting incorporated into the newer devices, and for us to use is a bonus. When you see Metal frames around the phone and advanced software and with SEAMLESS interconnect, I am carried away by the technology that is getting developed there. The production lines are many and the labour available being plenty and the funding being generous, I feel that the development areas are more and large too and you will get to benefit after your completion of the course, and when you get to enter the work force and see how disciplined they are in their Production lines too. That will be knowledge at your finger tips. You cannot buy it with money. So, be innovative and take calculated risks. That is my way of asking you to evaluate the Pros and Cons of the location where you would be entering to study.

In short do not discount any other country nor short change yourself.

Good Luck once again.

Top jobs for qualified & well educated immigrants in Canada :

1. Security Guard.

2. Retail store clerk & cashiers in the various stores in shopping Malls.

3. UBER driver. Cab driver's are starving after UBER came in.

4. Warehouse or Factory jobs. Mostly heavy lifting jobs & heavy physical labour type jobs will be given to immigrants. The light labour and manager/supervisor type of jobs on the shop floor will be reserved for the Goras.

5. Fast food jobs in McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Pizza hut.

6. Lot of cleaning lady type of jobs are also available in retail stores and houses of Goras. You will have to clean the toilets too.

7. Jobs as waiters or cooks in Desi restaurants are also available. Please note White restaurants won't take you as a waiter as Customer's won't understand your Indian accent.

8. Even Petrol pump attendant type of jobs are available.

-----

Doesn't matter if you are a MBA, Doctor, Engineer, CA, Architect or whatever from India, keep your degrees & diplomas aside , when you come here & choose one of the jobs above, as 100 % guaranteed you won't be working in your profession or field.

You are free to post your opinions on the country but please refrain from calling names or deriding other posters who don't share your views/opinions.

Most posters post from anecdotal experience and their current state of mind.
