Cell phone For Student coming soon

Hello,
My cousin is coming next week to study in kingston.
Q - Cell Phone : What would u suggest best strategy to get a cell phone ?
Would Indian samsung cell phone work here ? No one knows in India about unlocking a phone ? OR should I buy an i phone 4 here , i m getting for cheap and then use that or buy anew cell phone with plan from service providers ?

Q - Air mattress to begin with or sleeping bag ? Plus minus of both ? And any recommendations ?

Thanks

All phones sold in India are unlocked. So it will work here, depending on the Model. Just use a charger from here as the PINS that go into the electric socket for charging are different over here.

All networks in Canada cuurently support one or more of GSM / AWS / UMTS / HSDPA / LTE . North American GSM uses 850/1900 MHz , UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900Mhz, LTE 1700/2600, AWS 1700/2100 frequencies.

Make sure your own phone is compatible with these frequencies.

Generally most reasonably new phones are Quad Band & will support most of the frequencies.

Pre-Paid SIM card is the best to keep the cost down. Public Mobile is good for that , as its just a sub brand of Telus.

Air Matress is the best. Sleeping bag is too uncomfortable for long term sleep i.e no of days. Only good for sleeping for a few days.

Amazon, Wal Mart etc have lot of air matresses for sale for cheap.

Chatr or public mobile - cheap and reliable options.

Yes It should work . Recently I bought samsungON7 from India and it is working here . Alternatively you can search on google , put IME number and check whether this phone will work in canada or no ?
