Hello,

I am currently doing my Masters in Hong Kong and will finish in next 2 months. My fiance is studying in Vancouver & we are getting married in Jan 2019. She has a valid study visa till JAN 2020. Now I would like to know the fastest and legal way to arrive in Canada. Thorugh my research I found few options but not sure which one to apply

1. Apply for PR before Marriage?
2. Apply for PR after Marriage?
3. Apply for an open Work permit after marriage?

If there is any other option please let me know.

Thank you,

If and when you get a great score through IELTS you can enter easily through the Express Entry system within a year. That Visa is for PR Status. You need to pass a Medical Exam also. You need to pay the fees and it will also cost an Entry Visa fee.

If you get called for and they request you to apply, then you can wait for a few extra months if needed to enter and then get married soon after that. THAT WILL BE THE BEST. Also, they will look for an experience in a Senior post with a Year's experience at it. Do you have all these qualifications too?

You know that the fastest way to get in is by applying for a Visitor's Visa and take a flight into Vancouver.B.C., The next fastest is a CRUISE. The slowest is by swimming. You will need a waterproof pouch for documents and your Passport. (HeHe.)

Graduate first and get IELTS and work at a decent job for a full year and then apply to get in. Alternately, my suggestion to you is drop in and stay for Six Months and then.,

Good Luck and congratulations.

FH.
When you land here and get married, your spouse who is a student cannot sponsor you, unless she has lots of funds for her education and her stay and additional funds to support you too. Hence, think twice before you do something as a shortcut. fh

A pilot project has been launched for international students at some of British Columbia’s private educational institutions to give them the chance to gain Canadian work experience after graduation.

Alice Wong, Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism and Minister of Regional Economic and Skills Development, Ida Chong said it is part of a government strategy to attract more overseas students.

Since 2005, the number of foreign students coming to Canada has increased by 25% with a total of 85,140 entries in 2009. The government wants to increase numbers further.

‘We remain steadfast in our commitment to attract international students in to Canada and then retain them after they graduate. With this pilot project, we are continuing to build Canada’s standing as a destination of choice for international students,’ said Wong.

‘In the next decade, British Columbia will have more than a million job openings and immigration is going to be a key factor in our ability to fill them,’ said Chong.

‘By expanding this programme to private institutions, we’re giving more international students an opportunity to work and potentially to choose British Columbia as a place to call their home,’ she added.

The Post Graduation Work Permit Programme already allows students who have graduated from an eligible programme at a post-secondary institution to gain valuable Canadian work experience.

Under the programme, graduates can apply for open work permits for up to three years, depending on the length of time they studied. Until now, only international students at public universities and colleges and private degree-granting institutions were able to apply and get Work Permits.

With the implementation of the two-year pilot project, graduates of private post secondary institutions with career training programmes that have received the British Columbia Education Quality Assurance (EQA) designation are also able to apply for an open work permit. At the end of their stay and work they can apply for their PR with this system.

‘International graduates with Canadian education, Canadian work experience, and an ease and familiarity with Canadian society are often excellent candidates to apply for permanent resident status,’ said Jason Jenney, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister.

‘The Government of Canada is committed to giving Canadian educational institutions a competitive edge in attracting international students,’ he added. Recent initiatives include online application services, the off-campus work permit programme, and the post graduation work permit programme.
