On a positive note, you got red-pilled, which you might not have otherwise experienced. But then again, it would have been a cheaper red-pill to swallow had the entire process been in India.
Btw, Canadian (or any foreign) decrees on divorce are not recognised by Indian courts if one of the parties (especially women) contests it in India. So, basically, women can start their extortion afresh in India, with 498-A, DVC etc. Only maintenance (foreign courts orders), on its own, has some legal basis in India (as they are way more generous on account of exchange-rate).

Just out of curiosity:
Did you try to amicably negotiate about asset sharing and support arrangements? There seem to be plenty of cases in which the parties argued and settled what is acceptable to both and then went to divorce court on pro bono type of arrangement and minimized the further asset loss to lawyers. These devastating costs is probably why there is a saying: they are cheaper to keep than litigate. Also, it is these asset-based quarrels that sometimes lead to deadly confrontation etc.

Divorce - Painful , Only when you have kids...
or else its just the process, We man mostly lose to women because of our Ego. We are foolish .
TOUGH FOR LOGICAL SOLUTION:
If you don't have kids then simple thing to do is... stop working, go on social assistance. work under table ( Only Cash) - DONT BRING ANY MONEY TO HOME, LEAVE HOUSE RIGHT WAY - LET YOUR CREDIT GET RUINED - IF U HAVE NO MONEY THEN U DONT HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING.
Few years its struggle but after that things become normal.
Legal process will cost you too much time and money... we rather go low for few years...
the women you divorce will not have patience to wait longer so SHE will get involved with other man .
i know lot of people will not like this idea and may curse me but this is the real truth.

Your idea is one more that I now will have to add to all of the other ones. You must have a good knowledge about the separation cases to go with it.
As you call it `The Truth`It will be nice asking you about the other cases and the dollars and cents that go with the settlements to get a complete handle on it.
Does the judge who hands over a settlement take into account the companionship that the lady provided or the food and other comforts that he got daily! OR all of this is for nothing and free. Does everything get split 50-50 or it is biased towards the better half!
If all of what you say here is to soften the blow and you have to enter into a hermit`s life then, it will be wise to work out a PRE nuptial agreement before marriage, would you agree. if not what are the other alternatives É.

Do not trust Canadian judges in enforcing contracts. They routinely nullify them. Prenups are not worth the toilet papers they are printed on.
