Direct Energy was bought by Enercare and probably the best pick among all evils.
Make sure that Mntce plan covers emergency repairs.
I personally not in favour of insurance plans unless you have a DC furnace with ECM motors. You have to be really lucky to come ahead of insurance premiums paid. If you are worried about upcoming repairs than put your insurance premiums aside in a separate Gullak and use it when need arises.

P.S: It is always a good idea to have your equipment checked once a while by a professional especially if you see any signs raising alarms.

Yeah those Maintenance plans are not worth it. They are often a rip-off.

During emergency they don't really help you, as they will send the technician, whenever they want.

Also lot of clauses in it, so they will say this is not covered, that is not covered, this is extra & that is extra.

Just get a complete tune up done & cleaning done before winter, could be as less as $ 100 to do that.

Also change the furnace filter regularly all year around and use a good quality filter. I change my filter every 60 days.

Sometimes in winter, if I feel the furnace is working over time, I will change it every 30 days.

Keep the area around he furnace clutter free and debris free, so there is enough room for air to flow through and also keep the furnace room door open if you can. Keep the area clean, so that there is no dust etc in that area.

You can easily get 20 years or more out of your furnace just by changing the filters regularly and occasionally during some routine tune up.

Once my furnace motor went off - broke.

Cost me $ 250 to replace it - including parts & labour, for a brand new motor.

And once I spent $ 100 for cleaning & tuneup of the furnace, just as preventative maintenance.

THE REASON WHY YOU HEAR A LOUD BANG and then STOPS.

SO, PLEASE GET IT SERVICED AND CHECKED AND RECTIFIED. YOU SIR HAVE BEEN WARNED.

What is a gas furnace pressure switch?

A furnace pressure switch is there to tell the furnaces control board that the inducer motor is working. A inducer motor spins and pulls out toxic FUMES and other burnable gasses that come from the burning gas, NATURAL GAS, and pushes all of it out through a vent creating a vacuum.

The gas furnace pressure switch inducer motor. :

Before natural gas can go into a furnace and start a flame, it uses the pressure switch as a safety to know that the gasses are being vented.

Repairing or replacing your furnace's blower motor can cost you anywhere between $150 and $450, depending on the extent of the damage. Heat exchanger repair costs can vary greatly, from as little as $100 for a simple fix to as much as $1,200 for a full replacement.

These FURNACES are made by geniuses to be run by F*King Fools 24 x 7 and 366 days/year, every year for 25 years at the minimum.

We BUY a house BUT we need to make sure that the WARRANTY and GUARANTEES are transferable to the NEXT OWNER. If not you sir are SCREWED.

EXPANDED.

Please note down the Make and the Model number and call a few who can service your furnace for a minimal price say $75 to a $100 cost. If they clean out and refit the same and there is NO MORE BANGING after that, then, you know it was due to some dirt clogging the orifice or a block. STAND AND WATCH the repairman if you can, when he services.

I am not saying that it can BLOW UP ON YOUR FACE when you start the furnace the next time. In the worst case scenario, it can blow the whole heating and cooling system as they are combined as a UNIT where they function., there in the basement. I don't want you to suffer and hence the warning. IT IS A SERIOUS Problem if you don't attend to it as soon as you can, which is now before the heating season starts. Hence you should call and get it serviced before the winter heating season pressure on the maintenance staff. Say, in the next Five weeks. Please give them the reason also.

You don't need a Service Contract, play it by as everyone here is telling you, one year at a time. When you get the furnace details, see if it is still under warranty and go on from there.
