My mom turned 64 this year in 2018. She applied for her citizenship in Oct 2017 once the new rule came into effect where 55 and over do not have to take up test. She received a test notice in mail to appear. Was this sent in error? She has no knowledge of English or French. Do i have to call CIC or mail them? If anyone has similar experience or any other advice. Pls share. The test date is sep 25, 2018.

Thanks

It is my opinion and it is only mine, that she will have to fill in the application and pay the fees. Which you both have completed and that should do for starters.

Now to the nitty gritty.: She should be able to sit at the test centre and take a good look at the test paper and fill in all of the details that it calls for. Don't have to write any answers to the questions asked.

She will be called for an Interview by the Immigration Judge. If she knows all of the answers to all of the questions that were asked, then, get an Interpreter, such as yourself, and regurgitate the answers there as being told by her, to the judge.

Voila'.. There you have it. Collect the citizenship certificate when she is called in for the swearing in ceremony and become a CAJUN.

FH.
(I can also teach a few good cuss words! Ha Ha, is that what swearing in means?!!)

No, my question is why has she been asked for the test if the new rule says " 55 and older are exempted from taking the test". We waited so many years and applied only now once the new rule came out in Oct 2017. No way can she even read a sentence in English. I might have to call CIC asking for explanation. MOreover, she was never sent any book to prepare for the test. So no idea what this means.

What she should have received is an Interview call, mainly to verify her papers like ID, passport details of travel/dates and any countries she has visited where the In/Out stamps are not in english or french; in this case they ask for explanation.
I know a neighbour Arabic lady 62 years old who was thus called for an interview/ID verification

Yes i called CIC and they confirmed it is for interview since she is older however the letter stated test which was in error. Now what will she be asked? I will go with her for translating. And how long after the interview will the Oath ceremony take place?

Good. Questions generally are simple like how she is managing herself. financially/where is she staying etc. What her travels have been and a check of her passport pages to confirm her travels/duration etc.
Oath is on a separate date; can be weeks or even months- depending available spots in their schedule
