I am already inside Canada and recently finished my studies and my UHIP EXPIRED and I am now WITHOUT ANY HEALTH INSURANCE. I am in an implied status and looking for a health coverage. I would prefer also having coverage for outpatient visits / medication in addition to the emergency one.

Please advise, as it appears i'll have to buy some travel health insurance though i am already in Canada :) ... The travel health insurance do not cover Outpatient visits but only focus on Emergency visits.
Also, since i do NOT have OHIP i cannot get any Health insurance from Canadian companies and only option is travel health .
I do see international healt h insurance companies like Cigna providing Health insurance without asking for OHIP , but i feel dealing with them afterwards (since they are not truely based in Canada) will be challenging.

Please advise what should I do and the roadmap I should follow until I get a OHIP Card say for next 6 months.

Thanks in advance!!!

Home Health and wellness Health cards, eligibility and coverage
Apply for OHIP and get a health card
The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) pays for many health services you may need. Here’s how to apply for OHIP and get a health card.

Download Registration for Ontario Health Insurance Coverage form

As of March 19, 2020 we are waiving the three-month waiting period for OHIP coverage. If you do not meet the criteria for OHIP coverage and are uninsured, the province will fund the cost of COVID-19 services.

If your health card is currently expired or expiring soon, you do not need to renew to receive access to health services.

HOPE THIS HELPS and others who are in a similar situation...

FH.

I come across many persons who are in Canada but they do not have any OHIP (Medical) coverage.

This could be because of your:

1. waiting for Work Permit,
2. completed your studies,
3. in queue for PR and
4. landed as PR but do not have OHIP in the first 90 days etc.

Just yesterday one student who is joining Saskatchewan Technical but landing in Toronto asked for Medical Coverage. Her college medical plan starts when regular classes will start probably in May 2021. Till then she needs a medical insurance coverage.

The cost is not very high, its between $1.50 to $2.00 a day but a student gets coverage for $2 million and $0 deductible (which means you pay nothing out of pocket in case of a payable claim).

I can guide and help those who are looking for some genuine source. PM me. I am a Chartered Insurance Professional, Fellow of Insurance Institute of Canada and have been in this industry for over 30 years, guiding and advising immigrants/students.

Well, Mongadeep, I believe this person knows why they didn't have coverage - they said they are on implied status. People on implied status (depending on the province) are usually not eligible for the provincial coverage that they were previously covered by. Unless they get the extension or new class of visa that they apply for.

For those on implied status, they need to look at getting some emergency medical coverage in place by buying VTC insurance. To get a quote for 'visitors to Canada' insurance, the best online source of info (and lower cost options for those less than 40), they can get a quote, ask for advice, or buy online from BestQuote. https://bestquotetravelinsurance.ca/visitors-to-canada-insurance
