Hi Guys!

I have got admission in Centennial College, Scarborough. I would just like to know the rating of this college. I hope it is recognized and attached to the university and the placements are also good.

Please let me know about this soon.

Thanks

What do you mean by recognized ? and what do you mean by Attached to the University ?
IN Canada, we do not have the college system as in India (..a.k.a affilated to so-and-so University). This is a publicly funded college having its own curriculum and degree. It is not affiliated with any other university (e.g., University of Toronto) .
Are you a landed immigrant ? IF not then it will be difficult for you to secure a job in Canada. If you are a LI then you can apply for any jobs. IT all depends on what your stream of education is and where you apply !
You can read posts in this forum abt Jobs in your field (if they exists)..

http://www.centennialcollege.ca/programs/inter/index.html
http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/general/list/college.html

& hence the degree/diploma you get from this college should be recognized. Whether its recognized outside Canada, you should check with suitable authorities.

I am recent graduate from International Business programnme and have a good network of people who are were and will be studying in these colleges.

few things u should check before choosing a college.

1.come to a big city like toronto dont go anywhere and that thing makes a big difference.

2.check if co-op is available in your programme and if yes what was the placement scenerio last year.

3.dont listen to consultants most of them are cheats ;check the fact yourself and if u want i can verify things for you being in canada.

4.Job scenerio is very bad and u can see that on this forum; and it is even worse for students tough few of my friends have a job but then u can count them as exceptions.

5. is your college a private or publicly funded as a private college needs a HRDC permit even for the first year of post graduate work permit and which is next to impossible.

6.In most cases u dont get campus jobs from my network of around 60 people only 2 have got it so be prepared to wash dishes or work as cashier at a convienient store and get exploited by your employer.

get in touch with me if u want to have a chat with me at or

Binnie let me state an incident that happened last year.
One of our neighbours in India e-mailed me. His son, after attending a counselling session from a "consultant", wanted to apply to a Canadian College here. Mind you, he had finished his B.E in Comp. Sci. The consultant promised him that all expenses per year would be about $10.5K and that too in a city like Toronto !!!!! This included fees, boarding, lodging etc etc. Those guys really pestered me and I had to give them some hard facts akin to what Nishit posted above. I did not hear back from them, but I suppose they did not pursue with that option. I hope they applied for a regular University program.
Please, and I mean a big please, think twice before you apply to these colleges based on false information via consultants. Most of them (who visit India) like to prey on guillable ppl and leave you in the lurch when they receive the cash !
It would be better if you apply to a regular Canadian University and that is a transparent process. Degrees are recognized worldwide and you wont have finding a job (provided you are willing to struggle) !

Re-stating what Nishit stated :-
1.) You wil have to wash dishes/deliver pizza's etc., and there is a good chance you will be exploited

2.) Work permits (from a regular University, i.e., Universoty of Ottawa) are very hard to get. However I am aware of ppl studying in Dalhousie University in Halifax that have obtained work permits. This was, however, during the Hi-tech boom years.

3.) If you have relatives in Scarborough, then *maybe* you can save a lil bit of money on residence. I am not sure abt that though. It depends on how your relatives are.

While others in da forum may blame us for being ultra-pessemistic, but Its better for you to know the facts before you make such a big decision in your life. Whatever you decide, all the best :)
