HI,
I applied for my PR in Oct 2003 and got file # on 17 Nov.2003.I received my medicals on July 15 2004 and a letter accompaying from the Buffalo RPC stating that -
" The Buffalo RPC have now completed the initial analysis of ur application and have determined that a personal interview with a visa officer is required and will take place at Canadian Consulate General in Detroit".
" We have placed ur file in a queue awaiting transfer .Once we have transferred ur file, the interviewing officer will send u a letter to advise u of the date and time of interview".

Kindly let me know how many months it takes for the file to be transferred and to be scheduled for an interview .

From my time line,
I got a similar letter in Nov 1999. My File was transferred to the Seattle Consulate in DEc 1999. I recvd an interview date on Sept 28th, 2000.
Had a tough time getting a visa for the USA ( of cos, it will be extrenely difficult to get a US Visa, unless you have some stroke of good luck).

Finished my medicals and RCMP fingerprinting in Aug 2000 itself. Advantage of staying in Ottawa was that all documents were processed locally and transferred locally. By the time I reached my interview, the results were already in the system.

As a result, I received my Immigration Papers (i.e., the old IMM forms)...hold your breath... on the same day itself 28th Sept 1998., over the counter. It was like paying for a very expensive McDonald's Hamburger.

Questions were very routine and I had to explain what my research work was about. So I left Ottawa on a Students Visa and entered Canada as a PR !!

I do not know how much it takes for a transfer these days. I presume it should be quite long, as the situation has changed dramatically. !
Best of luck :)

Those were the good old days.. more than a year before 9/11. I was rejected on a Friday...("You cannot show sufficient ties to Canada";)..I went back again on Monday..with a cleverly drafted letter that I arranged with the help of my supervisor..and Presto! I got the Visa... Probably the only time I had a Visitor's visa on my passport ! :D

So in all it took 1 weekend to get the Visa :)
