I am not sure, but as far as I can recall wasn't ethnic humour a big no-no on this site? I do remember someone writing a surd joke and that poor dude was reprimanded severely by several prudish cds and his post deleted.

Ethnic jokes were a big No No.. but there are a few exceptions:

There are 2 rules for any forum:

1. Moderators are always right.
2. If in doubt refer to rule no 1.

I remember that one. It was a sardar joke and a few people were really offended so it was deleted.

Ethnic jokes do exist on the forum, there's a couple of jokes on gujjus that I know of. People did not mind them and so they remained.

There is no such rule that they are a huge no-no. If someone (a Bihari for instance) tells me that this is really offensive, I will delete it right away.

No, I don't think it was any Sardarji who had taken offense. There were some other cds, who had brought up the subject. I have been lurking around here for quite a while and have observed some select members who like to flaunt their holier than thou attitude, playing the role of "preachers" on issues of rules of conduct, examples being mispellings of userids and the devastating effect it has on the adressed user's eminence, how damagingly offensive it is for people to forget to acknowldge help when they miss saying 'thank you' to an answer provided by someone, the extreme care that users should exercise in picking their screen names and how it outrages the modesty of the austere membership of the forum if not done properly.
As for ethnic humour, IMO, the forum should follow a policy and not be held ransom to inviduals. For example consider posting a sardarji joke. Most of them they are in fact, true copies of blonde jokes, with the blonde replaced by sardarji. I have known many more sardarjis who do not take offense to surd jokes than the other way around. In fact to be honest, I have not met even one who has been averse to them and I have known quite a few. Now suppose, you have 20 sardarji members on the forum who do not mind surd jokes and by remote chance, one who does. What do you do? Deprive the whole forum of some clean and benign humour, jokes that are without malice, or be held to ransom by one fastidious person. Moreover, to make it acceptable, the universal practice is to put in a disclaimer before the joke that it is not with malicious intent, or something like 'Sardarji -with all due respect" rather than feel offended by such jokes.
