http://www.nunatsiaq.com/CurentAds/jobs.html

For all those who are interested in the Nunavut jobs here are two sites that I found really helpful.

Luckily for you guys I have already done some research in this area....
These are excerpts from emails written to the recruiting office in Iqaluit.

***********************************************************
There is currently a housing shortage in Iqaluit so that aspect has to be
considered when sreening applicants as some positions are offered with and
without staff housing. If a position is offered without staff housing then
it is clearly indicated on the advertisement. Also, indicated on the
advertisement is that all positions are subject to the Government of Nunavut
priority hiring policy. This policy is described in Article 23 of the
Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and states that priority for hiring will be
given to qualified Land Beneficiarys. This means that the applicant must
meet the qualificatins of the position and be a Beneficiary under the Land
Claims Agreement. Like any organization, the GN is also subject to a union,
so currently employed qualified employees are also subject to the hiring
policy.

Having said all that, I have seen many southern applicants successful in
gaining employment with the Government of Nunavut. I hope this information
clarifies the hiring process for you and if you have any further inquiries,
please do not hesitate to contact me again. The goal of the Government of
Nunavut is to find qualified staff to fulfill the functions of the
government so all applicants are considered. We encourage continued
interest in employment with the GN. Have a good day.

On the Government of Nunavut website http://www.gov.nu.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK , job opportunities you
will find all of our current job competitions. If you are interested in
Iqaluit then look at the Head Quarters opportunities.

tm
This site will give you information for opportunities for nurses as well as
contact information for nursing positions. If you require additional
information, please feel free to contact me again.

In conversing with a co-worker who has friends in the region, I understand that there are few opportunities for new comers to the area. This is, and quite understandably so, because the government wishes to fill those positions with local talent.

Having said this, you can see from above what the response from Tara was....

Hope this helps!
:)

Hi everybody,

This is my first mail but I am highly impressed by all the friends at CD.com.I have been working for last 14 yrs with Hindustan Petroleum Corporatin in India in techno commercila positions.I am a mechanical engineer from Aligarh Muslim University.

I am planning to move to Calgary within few days as I have realised that there are few oil jobs in Ontario.I am just 5 days old here.I am looking for certain leads with regards to following:

Placement agencies to get entry level drilling jobs in Alberta.
Driving licence acqisition in Alberta and whether the same is valid for entire country of Canada.
Mode of getting cheap car in Alberta.
Any other helpful lead.

Thanks for everything this site gives and best of luck to all

Hello everyone,

I am reviving this thread to see if anyone actually followed up on the previous messages and tried to seek job openings in the NWT/Nunavut.
When my application was still in-process, I had done some research about the NWT, Nunavut, Yukon and adjoining areas.
Based on whatever research I had done, I noted the following:

1. Extreme living conditions, of course. But if you are a nature lover and want to "get away" from the hustle-bustle of big cities, that's the place to be.
2. Interaction with the local Inuit communities and their culture. They are very colourful people and during the summer months, they have festivities, etc. going on in Iqualit, etc.
3. Most jobs get filled thru local references, and very few jobs get posted on the Internet, newspapers or agencies.
4. Very high cost of living. Apartments go at 99% occupancy and very expensive housing.
5. Other than the worst winter days, great opportunities for nature lovers, who like to live on the "wild side".
6. Just a ferry hop away to Nuuk, if you want to live on the edge of civilisation :D

Let me know if anyone actually pursued any job opportunities and what their experience was like - I would like to hear.

Thanks.
