Immigrants help keep the economy agile and moving.

True BL, however, it is also important that people appreciate that the economy does not depend purely on immigrants' settlement funds as has been suggested on posts on this thread.

Rather it is the government's best interests and the best interests of the economy that immigrants get into the workforce and contribute their skills to the economy, and in turn consume in order to continue the economic cycle.

........No 'dirty tricks' being played here!

If Biomed didn't understand the numbers, he shouldn't have posted them here, sensationalizing them with the intention of degrading Toronto.

I do understand and standby what I have posted. My English may not be that good but I am sure it is good enough for SIMPLE/NORMAL people to understand.:D

Thanks and regards.
Biomed

Hi Biomed,

I would say if you can quote sources and if possible links from where you have obtained this data, it would be good for all other people in the forum viewing these posts.

Please don't mistake me but without proof from realiable sources of information, it is hard to believe certain facts even if they are true because there may be human error involved i.e. one might have heard something on the TV and could have mistaken it as something else or sometimes it depends on how you intepret a person as homeless

10% is pretty high figure but I understand based on the links provided by Blue Lobster that the homeless figure varys widely based on the way they interpret homelessness

Hi Desis,

Dont you still believe that Canadian Govt. is playing dirty game in the name of immigration?

Sort of cover up to boost economy.......recall my earlier calculation 200,000 heads x CAD 10,000 per year = ???????? billions.........pouring into economy......

Once $$$$is poured ....who cares whether they get job or wait for food ticket to survive?????

Many believe its better than India.........Manyways it is......

Deep

Hi Deep,

It would be a disaster if canadian govt. wants to boost economy with the mere $10,000 a person brings in as settlement fund. This $10,000 is supposed to sustain you and your family without causing strain on the public funds. I can't believe your theory.

If canadian govt. really wanted money, they would be after more business immigrants who are supposed to invest a lot more money into the economy (300,000 or more) and create jobs for Canadians.

Canada is the only western country and G8 country that still lets a person from a third world immigrate easily. Whether a person is successfull here or not is up to him. But atleast, they giving him an opportunity to try his luck without hassels of Visas etc.

Let me know if you find any other developed country that is more open to immigrants!!

Regards,
maple_asian

Maple
The problem in this forum is that some of our members are very much selective when it comes to statistics. If numbers are per their expectations they will keep quite and if numbers are not as per their expectation they will even question the authenticity of statistics from Stat Can.

Whenever I post any numbers in the forum, they are always real and taken from National or International NGOs or Governmental agencies, I DO NOT create these numbers at home.

Just search my post at CD and you will find sources of all statistics.

By the way anyone know the “definition” of homeless in our forum?

Thanks and regards.
Biomed

Maple ,
Bio is correct. He has been regularly posting some good informative articles and links.

Bio,
Your point is vaild and understood that more and more people are relying on foodbanks...it is a worrysome trend.

Going by the way this thread panned out , mostly everyone agrees with the problem. The only exception taken was the way the numbers were presented , which made it look like 175000 people rely on foodbanks every day.

the difference of opinion is only on the numbers you present . I posted an article of toronto sun which says the number of people relying on food banks is 5700 everyday .....and on a monthly basis it would be close to 175000.

Regarding the defination of "homeless" ... it looks like you know a better defination than most of us ...so why dont you enlighten us?

Btw...dailybread food banks centers have volunteer opprotunities open ...i am planning to go there one of these days ...anyone wants to comealong ?

Spastics? You must have meants statistics. The word spastics signifies something entirely different.........

You made a quote that said 10% of people in Canada are homeless.....you say those numbers have come from Statistics Canada. If they exist, show us where you got them from. Can't see what all the fuss is about, if there is a link, show it to us........
