Hello Mr Hawk!

As far as I know, no truckers, taxi drivers, medical doctors, dentists, or hair dressers on this forum. Situation may change in future though!

There would be a member, I believe, who might know a trucker! Anyway what is the question?

BTW, I know few of the truckers, some operators and some owner/operators. Mostly (99.999999%) doing very well in business. What do you want to know?

i too want to know as u said mostly 99.99999% doing well in business. in which manner the said business is so success. whether long route business or local business. local i mean in any city. whether by long trailors or medium trucks or small trucks. approx. how much one can profit from it monthly after all expences. Whether one has to do business of his own truck in market or there any opportunities of getting contracts of companies too. pl detailed help will be appreciated,

trucking
I am also very interested in this field, but has no insight into this field. There are some ads in the employment news though wherein they gurarantee contracts . May be a scam too as they expect you to put 10-15k downpayments for a trailer that you are going to buy.

My question is what if they don't give contracts as promised or if the margin is too low.

Any ideas..

In my opinion, this is a well paying profession but as a business, it must be quite tough since drivers are not available easily. Have come across trucks carrying an advertisement many times - drivers wanted - contact this no?

If you get the necessary licences for driving, job is available immediately and the rewards are handsome!

I personally do not know but such things would be easily available, I guess, on local free newspapers, or as I said, written onthe trucks, or even perhaps those school bus companies which are forever ready to hire you as a driver and give full paid training.

Try these links ...( ofcourse, i googled it )

http://www.trucknews.com/Careers/Career_ads.asp

http://www.trucknews.com/HotLinks/hot_links.asp

Going by some of the employment oppotunities listed, the salaries are indeed very good , varying anywhere beteen 40cents to 85 cents per mile...depending on the type of routes etc....i saw quite a few were offering signin bonuses ....weekends at home , guess the assignments require keeping away on weekdays...some even offer 4-6 weeks paid family vacations.

But a profession like this can take its toll on family life, maybe you can try contacting these companies and see if they have any local routes for same day return , it might just work out for you.

The positive side is that there is a shortage for truck drivers and i had heard that they easily make over 80 - 100 k if full time employed.
But the negatives are plenty too , like need for keeping the record clean at all times , impact on family life etc .
See what works for you , maybe you might just find something to suit your needs.

Good luck.
