I am thinking of migrating may be in the next 2 or 3 years. At present I working as a research engineer in a university in Florida. I have my Master's in Electrical Engineering. I would like do my Master's in Business Administration from UBC. Are Master's degree from US universities recogonised by Canadian Universities. Also does the government give study loans or financial aid for residents. I have 3 years teaching experience in my university where i have taught basic computer science courses as well as graduate level labs. I have 3 publications in the field of electrical engineering and 3 publication in the field of Bioinformatics as I had taken some courses relted to Biostastics. Will all this help me in getting an admit to to the business program at UBC or any other good university in Canada. Also what are the prospects of getting part time jobs while as a student . You views and suggestions are appreciated

Good day!

It is nice to know about your publications and I am sure you will be well received where ever you go but I would definitely suggest that you think of Rothman's.

Richard Ivey is costly and so is Rothman ( U of T) but then these are the ones that really really count in the Cad market. I think you already have a great career ahead of you so why not really add to that.

If you have a good GMAT score, you may end up getting schol and finally, the govt does support the students who wish to pursue education ( if they are landed immigrants).

So I would sincerely hope that you would go for U of T option.

According to the Fin Times rankings the Cad schools in the top 100 include both these -- Rothman and UBC-- and others areRichard Ivey, Queen, York's Schulich, McGill, John Molson, HEC.

The Business week included four of them in the top 10 of the Biz schools in world ( Non US)-- that is Rothman, Ivey, Queen and HEC.

Given these statistics, it does seem that it is Ivey or Rothman that is the ultimate in Canadian MBA market.

With that in mind, I think you will have enough opportunities at both these places to showcase your talents.

I have to mention that your posts on the subject matter are highly relevant and informative.

However the discusion so far is form the perspective of students who are studying in continuim.

I am looking for some meaningful info on Master's Education (Electrical Engineering - Specifically) in Canada from the perspective of those who have been away from academic's for a decade or more.

Obviously the majority of us are those who have landed in Canada thinking they would get a Job in their profession but to their horror have learnt otherwise.

Can any of you share your knowledge on this? It would be helpful if we can learn of sucessful as well as unsucessful experiences.

Also, does any of you have alternative strategies to enter their profession?

My daughter who has a PR status now is planning do take up undergraduate science course - Biochemistry & Biotechnology in one of the Ontario universities. We have applied in Guleph, Waterloo, University of Toronto(Mississagua), McMaster, Queens, U Ottawa, Carleton and York. Our preference in the order is McMaster, Queens, Guleph, U O Toronto & Waterloo. From your experience and knowledge, please advise if our order of preference is correct and which is be best undergraduate university for science in Ontario for an Indian girl who will be staying alone in the University campus.

Preeto, it is surprising that you keep asking the same questions which have been already answered by esteemed Ottawa Nerd. If you go through the thread again, then right in the beginning of the discussion, he has listed out the best universities in Canada and also given you the URL for each of these. Have you surfed the net to find out about the opportunities that these universities have and whether it suits you to join any of them.

An Indian, why do you wish to know about our disappointments? Do you wish to derive voyeuristic pleasure from such a discussion? I have personally been through it and know what it means to be turned down after eight different personal interviews ( not counting the telephonic interviews) even for lower level technician jobs so one has to accept this and move on.

Kuwaituser, Mcmaster is costly as compared to other universities and McGill has one of the best science programs but it depends on your choice. So far as your “daughter being alone is concerned”, rest assured that this place is the safest for ladies. The level of safety depends upon how the lady in question conducts herself but in the end, it is safer than DPS in Delhi where a boy can get away with almost “murder”. So you have nothing to worry about on that count.

No I am not trying to derive vouyerstic pleasure from the misfortune of others. I do understand there is a lot of it going around in Canada.

My question was on people like us -- who have been away from colleges and or academics for anywhere from 5 to 10 years or more -- rejoining academics in the hope of bettering their employment prospects..
