Thanks thinkinone and ottawa_nerd,
yaar...it's harmeek not hareem...lolz.I didnt had any contacts with any professors or i dont know any professor personally either when i applied to these universities...and i guess that was the main reason for my downfall.I was 100% sure that i wud get admission atleast in ryerson univ. after having all those education skills and 3 months candian exp. as a java developer, but this monday when i got a rejection letter from them too.....all my hopes dashed..lol.And i guess,my SOP is pretty gud as were my references.I went to the Universities fair once and i had a talk to one UoGuelph professor.I told him i got like 69% and that's considered gud in india. He said, you know i selected a chinese guy and he has 99%..how come you guys get so less averages.I wont mention the name of the professor here ..but these were the exact wordings he said. So,i've decided i would get some work exp. or some java certifications before i apply again.
cheers!!!

p.s:Or,might be when ottawa_nerd becomes a professor at UoOttawa,i might give a try again..cheez

Hi Harmee...69% is low anywhere...Waterloo, Toronto and even Ottawa...
You can do one thing though.
Why dont u take individual courses from the universities..by paying a per-course fee. Say after 1 semester you have taken 3 courses and yopu have got A grades in all of them. Then you can approach the profs with ur new grades. You can take courses without registering in the university

I will go for a community college course rather than MS. I have seen no person with MS/PhD in industry in the area, I live... unless u want to get into education field later.

Why would you prefer a community college? My field is far different from software. I am trying to corelate your thinking with mine and judge if my decision is correct.
I have opted for community college managment program (Specialised field, "Supply Chain Management" ) rather than going for an MBA(General) because it is job specific and cheap. Information that I am able to locate on the program is from community college website and nowhere else. I would like to find out what are the prospects of the program in real world. Do you have any source of information or suggestions.

Charlie,

What I said, was based on personal observations. Daily I see, People from community colleges getting into jobs so easily, compared to better qualified ones! They offer variety of courses, making one with somewhat broader scope. IMO, these courses are very job-specific. For international students, these are not cheap though.

Further, most of the time I continue to look in reality that
1. People with certifications or diploma getting into jobs easier than degree holders.
2. People with university degrees (esp Master's) are tended to look towards getting into Academics! MBA case is different though.

I am not the right person who cud tell anything abt SCM. 11 months exec MBA program are avlbl as low as $30,000 total.

You are talking in line of my evaluation. I have surveyed SCM and was not looking for your suggestion on the program but rest of the stuff is exactly what helped me in deciding. For information, Community College fees for 2 semester without book expense is $3500 for me as an immigrant. So, it is very cheap compared to any other option.
Thanks buddy.

Should one go Masters or even higher level of courses as opposed to say short term techincal courses?

I opt for the short term tech courses due to advantages already mentioned, whis is due to my family and financial situation.

Immigrants if able to afford money and a few years towards studies, nothing like that. Moreover, that gives them a way of networking, which I guess can prove quite beneficial.

is there one consolidated website, ON, with a list of gov't and university bursaries and grants? i think many people would benefit from applying to university and then deciding on whether to actually enrol depending on (1) the RA/TA positions offered to them, (2) the scholarships offered to them.

a person could apply on a whim or even on a yearly basis and then decide if it were actually feasible after crunching the numbers.

i know some people that are making a decent salary simply 'studying'. why not get paid to get a diploma and sit in the cafeteria and student lounge chatting up chicks?

yes, I came across a few sites for this purpose. I ll remember to post the site here, for prospective students, who look for bursaries, grants, RA/TA kind of things.

Look at section 'Financing Your Education' at http://www.accc.ca/english/resources/index.cfm

Hope that helps.
