Any store in Brampton or Toronto that sells authentic CDs/VCDs without burning a hole in my pocket.

I do not want labels such as Ganga Series or T-Series, I need pure 100% HMV, Universal or other labels. But I am not sure as to how much mark-up they put against say, a CD that sells for Rs.125 in India.

Also, i am not sure if stores carry the stuff I want. They might be more busy selling "Mirchi Mixes" or "Kaanta Laga" stuff. I need vintage Pancham, vintage Kishore or vintage Lata. :(

I tried buying VCDs thru net, having shipped it in India and then getting it here thru acquaintance, but rediff charges Rs.50 shopping charge per VCD. That is too much.

Real Player has a huge variety in Hindi Music, but you need to be in US to download that music

Meghal..do you have any authentic CDs of your own ? Vintage Pancham/ Vintage Kishore ?

Forget abt stores in Toronto..chances are they will either be dupes or they will be very expensive. Your best bet is to ask your friends who may be going to India...

Otherwise you should start networking and collect those songs via the internet. In the last 4 years or so..through my sources I had a chance to collect nearly 90 films in which Pancham composed music. In addition, I will be going to India and exploring the possibility of collecting his Bangla compositions also (which are very very rare)...

Oh btw..right now am listening to (...chhoti si kahani se baarishon ke paani se saare ...and raah pe rehte hain yaadon mein basar karte hain..khush rahon..ahede watan hoo hum toh safar karte hain )

If you have original CDs..and I mean original as in Original..not copied versions...then you can join our small gang :D....

Oh before I leave....
"Dil kya hai ek sheesha hai
sheeshe mein ek tasveer hain
tasveer pe likha hai tera naam
tujhe salaam"...:D

I have most of the songs I want, but I am looking for some rare albums like recently released "Panchamrit" or rereleased "Chala Murari Hero banne" or "Shubh kamna" or "Ishq Ishq Ishq". Songs that went to oblivion as soon as they were released, but now are rediscovered by music lovers.

In addition, now I need VCDs, as I also want to see the songs that I normally listen

Jab "Aande" ke fan hai, to "Murgi" ke fan automatically ban jaate hain, Been murgi andaa kahaan? (In this case, a "murgha";)

yes, I am very much dada Burman fan, especially his 70s music. The only MD in Bollywood, who gave quality output till his last movie :-)

P.S. - I hope to get my "Abhimaan" VCD soon

Interestingly enough, most of the songs from Milli were composed by RD rather than SD because SD was rather ill during his last days.

IMO, SD did his best work in the 50s and 60s, but other than that I agree with you :)

And to answer your question about getting original HMV, I have always relied on good ol' HMV tapes from India.
The recent tapes that HMV is producing are mere re-hashes of their old songs, and some of them have been enhanced with digital beats, etc.

Their old tapes (the ones that say "original soundtrack recording" ) are still the best.
Whenever I go to India every few years, I make it a point to get some from some stores that I know still carry the old stuff.
