Last September, I got pulled over outside TO for driving with a radar detector (It was under my seat as advised by the lady at the customs post at the border). Officer not only took my device but issued me a ticket and told me I'd have to appear in court. I politely pointed out to the officer that I lived in Kansas and it'd be impossible for me to come back for a court apperance. I was told that they'd just send me a fine in the mail.
Six months went by and no mail from the Court regarding the fine. I began to wonder if an arrest warrant had been issued in my name for faliure to appear in court. I sent an email to the court clerk with details regarding the ticket, asking her what the deal was. The following is the email recieved back from the court clerk:

Mr. Bhatia:
I have searched our computer system using the name Guarav Bhatia and I am showing no outstanding fines for you at this time. Perhaps for some reason, your matter was withdrawn and has now purged off of our computer system. Have you had a change of address since receiving your summons for court? If not, a notice of fine and due date would have been sent to your address.
I hope this helps.

I decided that the officer must have cancelled my ticket and sold my radar device on ebay
Guess What, a week later I got a letter in the mail demanding me to pay a fine for $123.00 for that ticket.

Lots of info regarding the overspeeding tickets. How about parking tickets? Got a ticket outside my building. Went and paid the fine in time. Do the parking tickets increase the insurance premium? Please put some light on this.
Thanks

Just to clarify 'Officers' don't have a monthly quota in general.....some specialized units within the police like the 'Traffic Enforcement Unit' and 'Community Oriented Response or "COR" Units have a specified number of tickets to issue per day to justify their being out there on a day to day basis and not doing general calls.
As for tickets, always fight them and set a court date, either the Officer won't show up or you have a very good chance of 'pleaing it down' and getting a much lessor fine and often no points that will show up on your driving record, thus not affection your insurance.

The cop just didn't do his job right... It happens in about 1 out of 100 cases. Be happy for it!
