Just a small observation.

I just realized on closing the browser window on the http://www.canadiandesi.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK website, the current logged in user`s session is not terminated (persistent cookies at play here, eh ;) ). I know it is much safer to click log-out but then not all do that - what if you are in one big rush and need to close the window or of the window freezes over on you.

It would not be a great deal to programmatically achieve this. Just a random passing thought. But you folks sure have done a great job on the site - keep up the good work.

Well.. I think this is how it is.. when you login to canadiandesi.. on the CD server your userid is stored in a table along with lets say a session id.. unless you press the logout button.. the CD server is not going to know if you are still there or not..

Your browser is no longer in connection with CD as soon as the page is loaded.. Only way to find out if you closed the browser window or not is to keep some sort of JAVASCRIPT code which can tell CD that you closed the window.. or you navigated to some other website.. This might need a pop up window or something like that which can load the logout page as soon as you close the window..

So the best way it to just LogOut.

I agree that the best way is to ensure that you click the logout link to logout - but what if the browser decides to freeze up on you or what if it crashes with the general protection failure.

Just as a safe guard, it would be better to capture the browser window close event and trigger the logout from behind the scenes.

To further illustrate, this is what most websites like Yahoo!, GMail, etc. do.

But your point is well taken.
