Dear Masood sahab,

I have a small request....can u plz help me with the procedure for getting a visitor visa to US as i have my immigration interview in Detroit in april 2005 and i am on a student visa here .
I had come to canada on a student visa valid till Dec 2004 and I have recently got it extended to Dec 2006.

my visitor visa was only till Nov 2004.

The renewed study permit says my "temporary resident status is maintained " and also says "THIS DOES NOT AUTHORISE RE-ENTRY"

So my question is
1. Can i re enter from US on the valid study permit i have?

2.Do i have get my visitor visa extended first before applying for an appointment to US consulate in toronto so that i don't run into some problem at interview. If Yes from where outside canada?

Plz guide me through the process i would really appreciate it.

Tulip, with apologies to Masood, Let me answer that question. I was in a similar situation as yours...

The jist being as follows :-
1.) You have to demonstrate to the US visa authorities that you have significant ties to Canada
2.) I know thats a lil bit tough for ppl on student visa's, but thats it..you cant escape it. Read my story and you will undestand how I worked my way around it.

Other than that, its sheer luck. You have no other option, but to hope that you get the Visa. Remember, times have changed since I went to the USA on a visitors visa.

2.) I think your study permit should be sufficient to guarantee you re-entry. A visitor's visa is needed to "enter" Canada. A study permit is then issued by the immigration authorities, at the airport. This becomes the "de-facto" visa for anyone who wishes to travel.

However, please correct me anyone else who has been in a similar situation.
