Dear friends,
I need genuine advice from all of you.
I am currently working in an MNC drawing a salary of 10 lakh per annum. I had applied for immigration 3 years back and have just received a final call. My passport is currently being processed. In the interim, I had also applied for an MBA in a couple of Canadian business like Richard Ivey and University of Toronto and have secured admission.
Currently, I am planning to leave my job, take a loan to finance my 2 year MBA and land in Canada in August this year. Do you think that it is a GOOD decision? Some people say that it is not worth leaving a good job and taking a plunge in a not so growing economy. SOme say that if one does an MBA from a reputed b school, he is sure to get a good job of say atleast Cn$80,000 an would be in a different league. This, they say, is the best way of immigrating though it means paying off debt for a couple of years.
I NEED advice from you since it is a MAJOR decision for me. PLS HELP

Lombard, why dont u have ur cake as well as eat it . Take a break from ur job (i.e., no-pay leave)..Finish your MBA...search for jobs in Canada (or the USA) with ur MBA degree. If you can get a job it would be great..If not, you can always have your old MNC to fall back on (and you can always negotiate a better deal in view of ur MBA)
U mean that there is a possibility that I may not get a job :-(
Not everyone gets a study leave, even without any pay.........
I think Landed Immigrants qualify for a Federal Student Loan if they have resided in Canada for 4 months. This is different from OSAP.

Hi Manjeet
You are leaving a decent lifestyle in india which is a risk and make sure that ; that risk generates a return that is sufficient enough and moreover there is a oppurtunity cost of time as well.
Moving to canada and going to ivey or U of T is an experience of a lifetime and you will never ever get this oppurtunity again. The next oppurtunity will be better or worse but not the same.
What do u want in life ask this question to yourself and verify where will u get it India or Canada.
MBA is not only about money making but about shaping your life and increasing your horizon whereby you create more wealth.
on monetary terms I would not even suggest IIM's as i have few friends in IIM's Xlri and most of the other top notch institutes mentioned. The general package is around 6-8 Lakhs.ISB would be a good bet else also look into Asian Institute of management in Manila but then Canada is a different league and An ivey or U of T will shape u in a totally different manner than all those institutes mentioned before. The difference wont be the curriculam but the people you will interact with.
I hope it helps you.
Nishit
