It is no good if the routine is not followed to the letter.

What do you mean by this?

See, they have a strict routine. The child has to complete any where from 5-10 pages of exercises every day. And the child will have to time the progress. If you don't do that then progress will not be good. It is upto the child and the parent(s) to ensure the routine. Otherwise the tempo will be lost.

Kumon develops the skill to do more things correctly in shorter time. It is a principal where getting 100% correct but in longer time is not considered as good as less correct but in shorter time. Basically it develops extremely fast mental math.

I am thinking of getting one too. Interested in partnership?

How much does it cost.......Not thinking of investing now, but perhaps in two years.

This is perhaps the cheapest franchise on this earth - only C$1,000 as franchise fee to start!

However, due to changes in their regulations a couple of years ago, it has not longer remained a franchise anyone could think of starting. Earlier, the franchisee could rent space in churches, community centres, schools etc and have the classes for those wanting to do their exercise in the class. that meant, all the franchise had to do start up a franchise was to pay $1000 and money for the educational material as inventory (which is not very much) and sign up for renting the inexpensive places.

But now they require that such classes can be conducted only in commercial places like strip plaza etc. That means one does not only have to enter into a long term lease at commercial rates, but also spend money in doing up the site and buy furniture etc! And therefore, to make it commercially viable, got to get a lot of students too (since the monthy fee ranges from 80 to 125 I think, of which a good portion goes into royalty fee and materials).

Not an easy business any more!
