I have been in the US for about six years now and I would like to apply for a Quebec PR.

I have two quick questions.

1) If you do not know French at all or know a very little, is it still possible to get a Quebec PR? Do you know anybody who has done this?

2) If you have filed bankruptcy in the United States, how do they look at this kind of case?(This question is targeted to both Quebec and Federal Skilled PR)

Thanks

I have no clue regarding the French part, but Your US Credit history won't affect anything in Canada, including your application for Immigration. CIC doesn't ask for your US SSN so they have no way to find out and You get a new SIN (same as SSN) when You land in Canada and that is what Canadian credit bureaus use to assess your credit.

Unlikely. Maybe you can take the tests on the website to see if you qualify.

Thanks DesiTiger and Jake3d for your answers to my questions.

DesiTiger, I heard that if you want to check credit history, you do not need SSN (even though you have to have SSN to get credit cards and things like that). They can pull credit information from your address and date of birth. I am not sure how true that is. As long as CIC does not care, I am fine.

Jake3d, thanks for the link. I took the test yesterday and the website result told me that I am eligible to apply. I do not know how much I can trust that website result. I did a three-month course in French at the French Cultural Center back home before I came to the US and I took two French classes (French 101 and French 102) in my freshman year at a US university. I have forgotten pretty much everything though.

I would love to get some suggestions on this matter (French Language).

do a search on the cd search option with 'french' as keyword.
Afaik, the immigration athourities are quite anal when it comes to knowledge of French for Quebec immigration. Have heard of people who have studied in montreal and having intermediate knowledge of the language being given a tough time at the immigration interview...held in French. That being said, you may have certain qualifications that may have made you eligible to apply. I myself have very limited knowledge of immigration to Quebec except from hearsay. All the best.
