HI All Fellow members,

I have been a daily visitor in this website and read almost all of your postings with great interest as I am a future resident of Canada.

I have already done my first landing and completed PR card formalities. I am now working and staying in Hong Kong with a view to land in Canada in two to three years time from now.

As I have been working here for some time, I have some business connections here and in China which we can all explore for a win win situation and opening up avenues for our desi friends.

As you all know that everything possible is being manufactured in China now and I have seen that Canadian marketplace is also full with Chinese products. My observation is still some products (especially clothings, electronics, toys etc) are highly priced and people are making a very high profit out of it. If we can start supplying the goods at a moderate rate with a view to making a decent profit, a huge potential is there.

If anyone is interested to market the products in Canada , I can play the role of supplier from here and we can do this as a joint venture. It should be quite a smooth operations by next two years and after that I can come join the business. By that time the supply chain in China will be quite well established and smooth.

If anybody is interested, please let me know. I just want to know the name of the product and price at which those can be supplied to stores. Basically I am in favour of supplying to various stores (not to the big ones who has a strong procurement capacity because of their large order placement) who are still buying at a much premium price from suppliers. For example, I have seen a remote controlled plane is being sold in a toronto small store at CAD80 which is 4 times the price it is manufactured in the factory.

Best regards,

Joy

A few questions:

What is your present occupation? Are you a trader or an employee of some organisation doing trading.

How are you connected with the suppliers in China presently - your own existing contacts or you hope to be able to build them up through your knowledge of some products/persons.

Are you capable of handing the financial aspect of buying first on your own account or are you able to get credit from supplier?

If you are able to get credit, on what basis - clean or LC backed?

What are the products you specialise in?

And to add to that all, let me tell you that it is a general norm with most of the products that the retail price of products in Canada is usually 4 times that of a manufacturers wholesale price. That means that you and a partner can succeed on basis of price (that is what you have indicated in your post), if and only if you are able to come up with a module of being able to sell at say about 3 times the manufacturer's price or lower. That being said, it is difficult to do that because of freights and high overheads of Canada (in Canada, the costs are high for rent, salaries etc but the consumption is less due to less population, and so effectively it means high overheads)

I will be interested in doing some business if you can supply more information on the lines I have noted above.

Chandresh

Dear Chnadresh

Please see my answers.

I am a Banker and working here. I have some contacts here who are my personal friends. They are doing business from here and supplying various goods to almost all countries in Asia and some of them are doing business with Europe also. Through them I came to know some of the major manufacturers in China. Also three big trade fairs take place each year in Chona to make contacts with manufacturers directly. I have participated in one of them and all of them mainly sale wither by cash or through LC. Obviously first couple of deals have tobe made in cash/Sight LC before one can establish the rapport to get the facility of deferred LC.

One can import any item from China. Their concept is whatever you want, they will match your product. For the same product they may have four different range of prices and quality will differ with the range of proces.

Thanks for your reposnse and let me know if you need more information.

Regards,

Joy

What are you offering that my local chinatown buddies don't? Why would I take a risk working with a guy in Hongkong directly when I can do the same with the guy in Chinatown and I wouldn't have to worry about import, shipping, frieght and customs? As well, I can chase the guy if there are any issues.

There is more to a successful business than just 'lower' price. What value are you offering other than price that I don't get from my local supplier?

You want someone to establish a business for you when you finally decide to move here. What are you offering to them? As for access to Chinese Suppliers, they are dime a dozen. You have money in hand, they will line up outside your door.

Dear Anil KG

I am not asking you who does not want to do business with a person in Hong Kong which you can do with your local Chinese Buddy. I am not also asking anyone to establish a business for me which I can takeover on my arrival. In my initial note I have clearly mentioned that it will be ajoint venture and a Win Win situation for both partners.

I have just given the example of price as one of the dimensions and other values automatically come as the business drivers. I do not know what prices you are getting from local supplier currently and what quality that price represents to.

It could be a big debate which I do not have any intention to get into. I just wanted to see whether there is anyone interested in business and that was the only intention. If I do not get anyone, I can start that by myself.

Thanks.
