WASHINGTON: A majority of bachelor's or higher degree holders in the US are Asians, followed by non-Hispanic whites, African Americans and then Hispanics, reports UPI.

According to a survey by the US Census Bureau on "Education Attainment in the US: 2004", people with college degrees on an average were seen to earn almost three times more than people without a high school diploma and nearly twice what high school graduates make.

Among the 25-and-older population, Asians had the highest percentage of bachelor's or higher degrees (49.4 per cent), followed by non-Hispanic whites (30.6 per cent), African Americans (17.6 per cent) and Hispanics (12.1 per cent).

I guess similar stats for Canada too. Does anyone know abt such kind of report for Canada, as I just see a few people going for university education here (in Canada), and most of people just get grade 12 and get into some or other kind of jobs!!!

I think you might have the facts a little wrong. The paper says that 49% of Asians have degrees. It means that if there are 1000 people(of all races) and of them 100 are asians, then 50 of them have a college degree. So 50 aisans with degrees does not translate to 50% of the population which is 1000 (in this case). Correct me if my logic is wrong.

Basic skills of comprehension seem to elude people in India.;)

Thinking about it though, Indians in general seem to be in such a hurry to say that they have 'arrived' (and that their culture is 'superior') that sense and reasonability goes out of the window!

Still a very high number. If they are beating the locals (i.e. non hispanic whites), it is something. I dont know if they have arrived or are superior, but it is worth noting.

In Canada of the number of graduates among Asians must be very very high, because of recent skilled class immigration.....no?

I don't have the exact numbers (and I'm not inclined to go around doing searches on the internet right now), but I imagine that in absolute numbers, 'non-Hispanic' whites outnumber Asians by at least 10 to 1.

When you consider that, the statistic quoted in the headline immediately raises an eyebrow, and when one reads the content of the article, the lack of comprehension on the part of the writer (and/or a tendency to exaggerate) becomes apparent!

I agree the title is misleading.
I will let Samosa_S explain.

And I meant the number is high relatively. The asians are beating the Non hispanic whites as a group. Not is total numbers, that would be impossible as of now.
