Relative rates of growth do not matter as much as newspaper articles make them out to be. Canada is already a first world country; we could grow at 15% for the next 5 years and still not even be halfway there.

And let's be honeVery few (none?) of us are greatly concerned by the greater good. 7% growth rate might be good for an economist but what most of us are more interested in are things like - when will the roads be pothole free? How many years will it take before I know I can be assured of electricity 24 hours a day?

Which I was I was trying to say in my first post: you have to put these articles in perspective and see what India's advancement means to you personally.

Its basically "Doing well in India with the Potholes" vs "Doing not so well in Canada without the potholes".

Exactly, my point is. You have to decide what you want 'progress with potholes on roads' or ' nice & clean roads with frustrated minds', it all depends on individual thinking & the situation that everyone faces.

I am here for last 10 years, working in IT field but returning back to India in 6 months. Believe me just can't wait to be there.

yeah,

it depends upon a individual's own circumstances.
one may be in canada and live amongst high rise buildings .one may see lot of luxury cars on roads , one may see nice looking persons around, one may see neatly dressed persons every where, one may see big and shining malls, one may see snowfall in his backyard....
but if in canada you are not having your house or apartment, your own car, a good job, some saving potential, some friends to whom you talk leisurely.....
then definately one feel dejected and confused that whether a happy life with roads with patholes or a frustated life with clean and good roads is better.

in my view it is your individual circumstances that matters .india and canada both are big countries with different characterstics.comapring there statistics doen not have much rationale and does not matter much for a immigrants though he always compares those.
i am a reasonably settled professional in india. some time i recollect my struggle for jobs in canada . there i was enjoying good air and water but what about jobs? i tried lot to get some work in my field but nothing materialised. i did some odd job there . so what is the sense in continuing
when you are not able to provide a sense of security to your children and to yourself.it is your life and you are not supposed to get back those beautiful years of your life again.if you are able to control the lure of western world and prepared to walk on the roads with patholes , to breathe in polluted air , to get up early in the morning to fill up your water tanks then inida is welcoming you with open arms....

Times are changing. Migrating to developed country is no more a charm as these economies are almost going thru recession or hardly growing.

Desi's who migrated to developed countries during their boom time in 60-80's are well off because these countries were growing so fast that good job and money were part of it.

It is good to migrate to a country where the economy is growing fast.

Thats the reason why there is reverese brain drain happening. Not only reverse brain drain but even phirangis are coming to india and settling down.

I work in MNC company and you would be surprised to note that 100's of phirangis are working here and have settled down in India. These people are well aware of Rising India.

There are so many BPOs were lots of phirangis are working. Phirangis are now marrying desis and want to settle down here.

Other industries were you can see lots phirangis working are Telecom, Banking, Auto, Pharma, Financial Services etc etc...

These people though not happy with the potholes seen around the roads but what they say that they enjoy working here. Reason: There are huge opportunities for growth, Career and work satisfaction. ( Rather than do odd jobs, change your career midway..)

So, where are you located?

When I was in India 2 years ago, I saw quite a few westerners in my locality. that would be NOIDA near New Delhi. I am assuming they were not tourists. NOIDA has a STP and Greater Noida , some distance away , also has one.
