I'm sure you guys must've been following the situation in New Orleans. Who'd have thunk this kind of stuff would happen in the US of A?? People are dying, there's no way out, looting is rampant, snipers are taking potshots at helicopters.....what a complete meltdown!

Unbelievable!

The everexpanding evolution of English.

Your hands do get tied when some like this happens. What beats me though is the fact that they knew from the predictions about the hurricane and the damage it could cause so why the hell did they not prepare. One of the thing thats running through my mind is that what if this is a silent way of ignoring the black community. From what I hear it is predominantly black and the most affected are also blacks. Double standards or what!!. Just chintan and manthan.

It is nothing but a mockery. I was watching Bush making some tall statements. But where is the action? USA needs to learn from India. Whenever there is a disaster, first thing people need is food and water. Army moves in quick and provides air drops. This is what was lacking in New Orleans. How can people survive without food and water? FEMA chief Mike Brown is busy giving interviews instead of directing his crew. The whitehouse spokesman was so wishy-washy in the press conference, it was disgusting to watch. Everyone in the US Govt. say the same thing, go over the same things, basically flogging a dead horse. Only words with spin, no action. It is clear that it is racism, to ignore blacks.

How desis fare in this?

Search "who'd have thunk it?" on google...

Yeah, the whole thing is a complete mess. And now Bush is sort of admitting that the "results are not acceptable". But hey, I'm sure he's got some spin on that too...

Is this America? THE SUPER POWER? A dreamland? Is this even a first world country? Even third world countries HAVE handled such crisis better; if not on their own then by some external help. If the current administration handles THEIR OWN CITIZEN like this, I can’t even imagine how Afghanis and Iraqis will end up.

Heard on radio and other forums, the budget to upgrade/maintain the levee was cut by about 40%. Reason? Yep, Iraq war and home land security. I wonder if it could have hold up, but might have bought some crucial time.

And what’s up with this? They are transferring people from skydome to other stadium in Houston? Why can’t they put them in Hotels-Motels? How long it will take them to build temporary shelters/tents? Why can’t American people open their doors and take in their fellow citizens? Why do you need to loot water and food? Why can’t retailers open their doors. Why you want your police/national guard/military to maintain law and order than rescue people?

Sad and sick are mild words to describe how I feel right now.
