Hi Chandresh,

I think your idea is good but as Golden Gun has rightly pointed out - execution and maintenance are going to be key issues.

One issue is the cleanliness or hygiene factor. Keeping in mind that these rooms r going to be used by immigrants who wud have the attitude of using and not "cleaning" thinking that they r not going to stay there forever. In India, maintaining these facilities is easy as u have workers to do these chores (guests don't clean the bathrooms !!). If u hv thought of getting around this, then I guess it wud be great help for the immigrants.

Secondly - keeping a resident manager who prepares food for the guests may not be a good idea. If u r thinking of keeping an Indian for the job, I don't think people wud be keen in cooking food for 15-20 people, 3 times a day (unless he/she is a chef but even then it wud be difficult without help). Then I presume in addition to the cooking, the resident manager wud also have to look at the administrative tasks as well. Tough job !!

Good Feedback from Golden gun and Rajrani. Thanx.

Rajrani, you have brought up a good point about cleaning. Well what I think is that there is lot of part time help available on $10-15 per hour if you hire on a regular basis.

However, apart from that, I expect the resident manager/spouse to basically give a hand in keeping the place clean just as she would do at her own home.

I have known a few families who supply food cooked at home just to meet up their household expenses. Here, this could be arranged in a similar manner where the the owner would be ultimately responsible, but the resident manager can run the food supply as her own business under the strict guidelines and supervision of the owner so that quality is maintained.

Having run a fantastic guest house ourselves, both my wife and I have found that the tough part is only the beginning few months when new rules, procedures, time tables and quality control are being set. Once set, it is an ongoing thing and just a regular 1 hr supervision by the manager is good enough. And then getting free accommodation itself is the payment of that service.
