An online version of the Overseas Indian, the monthly publication of the Indian Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, was launched in Delhi Monday for the 25 million diaspora of Indian origin spread over 110 countries including Gulf.
"The website - http://www.overseasindian.in" rel="nofollow">LINK - will act as an interactive platform
and information resource for people of Indian origin across the globe," Indian
Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said while launching the
website.
"The unique feature of this online version will be that members of our
diaspora can also send their feedback, hold discussions, contribute news and
events, give suggestions and spell out their grievances for redressal," Mr
Ravi said. "Diaspora has become a major component in India's socio-economic affairs and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has already acknowledged the diaspora's importance in India's aspirations in the future," the Minister said.
Mr Ravi said the website could also act as a help line for Non-Resident
Indians, especially in the Gulf and other regions. The website provides basic
data about the Indian diaspora in countries where there is a significant
presence of people of Indian origin
