I want an apt for only 2-3 months till I figure out where exactly I want to lease closer to downtown. At the moment I'm ok with a longer commute to my office downtown, but I'd like to get a 1 bedroom within 750. I know the figure is quite low and I'm not sure if I can find an apt within that range. OTOH, I can see plenty of basement apts for that figure.

My suggestion would be to stay away from basements if your budget can afford it. You'll end up saving about 500/600 bucks over a period of few months...but the environment is pretty depressing, especially if you're new and looking for a job.

Of course, its a pretty good option if your budget is limited.

If you're single, how about finding a roommate? Most condo rents will run to about 1100/1200 bucks per mo. and I'm sure you'll find a really nice condo for sharing for about 600/700 bucks. You may even escape the long lease option that way. If you find a good roomie, you've really got the best of both worlds.

Hi.

For those on a tight budget try:

2 bedroom rentals go for about $925 I think.

Of Note: Some of these apartments are on the 'ghetto' side since they do cater to the lower-middle-class folks and those on welfare. You should really view it as a short-term rental.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies BL and xyza.

I think I'll pass on the subsidized housing though....I'm married and I really don't want to put my wife through that.

I'm going to try and find something on a TTC route for a couple of months (3 max) and then move someplace within a budget of 1200 all inclusive.

Mississauga has some good options but by the time I factor in the commute costs I may as well be spending the GO transit (on top of TTC passes) I may as well be living closer downtown.

the initial place is because I don't want an outlay of $2500 (first and last) at the moment and I'd like a few months to figure out which area I want to move to.

You're welcome.

Bloor/Dixie might be the ideal area for you during this transitory period. Its not downtown but its not Mississauga, its in between- Etobicoke.

Easy access to TTC, good rental price, etc, most of the things you are looking for. The area is good too ... we drove down at nights to check the 'shady characters hanging in the shadows' factor and it was minimal to non-existent.

Good Luck with your search.
