Laptops are not charged - one per person. My brother recently brought in a laptop without any problems.

If you want to bring in more stuff you might want to look at the Transfer of Residence rules. You can bring in more stuff free with that, but you can use it only once in 2 years, or something to that effect.

There are books available in India detailing these rules - perhaps you can ask a friend to mail you one.
