I immigrated to Canada three years back with lot of hopes and dreams like any one and lived in a different living conditions- such as sharing, paying guest, leasing on my own and diffeent places in the Greater Toronto Areas- Toronto, Mississuaga and Brampton.
Now, I am hearing everywhere in the GTA that the Alberta province is booming economically, I was laid off recently and I am on Unemployment Insurance, the situation forced me to think about relocating to other Provinces like Alberta or British Columbia.
I am planning to Move to Alberta to take part in the advantage of employment opportunities. My field is municipal and industrial water, sewage and wastewater collection, pumping station, treatment and disposal. I wish to know about the employment opportunities in these field.
Could Canadian Desi Members those who are living in the Province of Alberta can give details about employment and living conditions.
As always the myth, the other side of the grass is always greener, what is the actual reality? Is it worth to move to west to venture out? or the situation is same in the west?
Thank you in advance for the inputs about the Booming

I am in Alberta province and here cost of living is high and income is less as most of the jobs are labour jobs. Further weather is harsh. Housing is very expensive and not available for new immigrants. I am planning to move to other province shortly ( may be Ontario). There is more false propaganda abount Alberta by some with vested interests for doing more businesses including real estate.
I am not sure, why you are saying cost of living is high in Alberta and how you are comparing. There is no provincial tax in Alberta and I found housing much cheaper in Edmonton/Calgary (Alberta) as compared to Vancouver, BC. Yes, weather is harsh, but I think it will not be an issue for immigrants, if can get good job. I am not sure, why you say housing is not available for new immigrants (may be credit history issue for new immigrant), but I had arranged for apartment in Alberta - sitting in Vancouver (Yes, I have few years credit history).
Engineers are in demand, but you know everything is in demand if you have Canadian Experience.................or some networking or know some people. But ofcourse, since you are there, you know much better about situation. I had got a job in Alberta, but decided not to take it due to some personal reasons.

The story is same like Ontario. Get a degree from a Canadian university and all gates will open up for you.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
I have a year experience gained in Canada in the municipal water and sewage treatment and pumping stations. I am hopeful that this one year experience will be useful to find a job in Alberta.
You are right. Try it out. However your experience area is a niche market.
Best of luck.
