All these times, I was sending thru wire or thru bank draft. When I was in desh, I had taken Amex travellers cheques. Got bad deals in the bank (Indian Bank). Once I got less than $39.50 (abt two weeks back). I wasdistracted for a few minutes and got hoodwincked.
What else is there to send money to get a decent rate (not black)? I need to send around $40k (bought an apt in Chennai).

In Mississauga, Try YEO money services located in the Kaveri supermarket at Dundas and Hwy10 intersection. He is legal. He gives the best rates in Town and can even deposit it in your SBI account in India directly (as a bank draft) or deliver money by hand.
Remeber that there is a tax levied by the inidan govt. to a tune of Rs. 10 for every Rs. 10,000 and therefore you will lose around Rs. 1520 as tax to the Indian govt. if you use the Demand draft option. If it is by cash, you will save this Rs. 1520.
Remember that the CDn. dollar is just around 88 cents to a US dollar (was 90 cents to a US $ when you were in India) and hence i presume that you may just get Rs. 38 or so for every CDN. dollar.
He takes your driving license no. to report to Cdn. revenue authorities and makes you sign a form that you are not using the money for Money laundering purposes.
Delivery time by cash is the next business day and demand draft option is 1 hr. (provided you have your SBI bank details).
