i needed to buy a secondhand cell phone and a computer. do know any secondhand shops other than “cash converter and common exchange” in Surrey?
Skeptical,
Welcome once again to Canada.
I wish you all the best in your quest for a job.
I suggest that you visit the nearest HRDC center for the use of Internet. Browse on Craig list.Vancouver and you can find many sellers. Get the phone nos. of people who interest you and make a call. This can lead to many cheap sellers.
Are you planning to use Fido connection for cellphone? I belive this would be the cheapest service provider. Get a cellphone which can handle this connection.
For computer, May i suggest a Laptop? This will enable you to carry the instrument without much hassles. The prices of 2nd. hand laptops are quite affordable these days for non IT people.
Please do update me on your job search process.
Thanks
TK A
Added note :
Skeptical,
If you are job searching it is better to go in for a unlimited incoming call package since employers / agencies will call you and go through your resume on the phone. 200 mins. may or maynot be enough. When i was job searching 100 mins was not enough for me in the first month but you may be OK with 200 mins. Just have the cell phone and donot have a landline. Sometimes, some of you buddies will call you on the phone during the peak hours and it is not possible to cut them off.
Try to make full use of the HRDC facilities, Incl. phone calls. Some HRDC staff may be rude since you are an immigrant, but speak up, ask for the HRDC rules and make full use of the center. There are lenient centres (where you can take unlimited print outs, use internet for unlimited hours etc..) . Try to identify those centres and always go there. In Toronto, I found the HRDC at Dufferin mall very lenient. You could take unlimited printouts in 2002-03 though you were allowed only 10 copies a day. Also the internet users were limited and hence unlimited internet usage was allowed.
