Hi Pankaj,
I was wandering if you could share some insights into the entrance/admission at the Master's level!
Precisely, let me just give you a run down on my background - do I stand a chance at a fairly top MBA program in Canada?
Graduated from a Master's in Engineering in US, gpa:3.6 [Grad TA & RA]
BS in CSC from US as well. Gpa sucked - 2.85!
Grew up in Canada, college and work(5 yrs) in US never returned home! Everytime I return home, it just doesn't compare to the US! I say to myself I could never return back.
Anyways, thanks for insights!

hi
let me tell u abt myself and difference between canadian and american univ and system.
i am chemical engineer frm thapar institute patiala, punjab which is one of the reputed institutes of india. i am 2002 passout, GRE 2260 TOEFL 287 and was working in a MNC in chandigarh and drawing handsome salary.
i wanted to furthur hone my technical skills so i applied for MS in canada and usa and got admission in auburn, wayne state and univ of oklahoma in USA and u of sask and dalhousie in canada. but i decided canada as i was not having schol in states and tuition fe was very heavy in USA. in canada i dont have schol but tuition is nothing so i can afford it easily and as of now i have no plans to settle in USA or canada i will go back after MS as i believe east or west INDIA is the best and i not only say it but mean it also.
Now abt education system especially research both USa and canada have almost same standard of research but yes in canada the universities donot offer research in every area due to limited resources and their research is more canada specific but the level and facilities required to carry out that particular research is comparable to that of USA, no doubt abt that and its considerably cheaper than states so if u can find ur area of resaerch in any of the top 10 canadian univ u can safely assume that level wil be comparable to that of states.
Regarding lifestyle and job prsopects after MS or PhD, Liking and disliking of lifestyle depends on individual perception as i like statying in india even though it is infested with dogs, rats, flies etc but i like it bcause my family is there and i want to be with them even if i earn 20000 per month i will be happy than be a very rich but alone here. secondly i dont belong to this place i consider myself an alien and will always remain that so no point in making money and still be an alien without any sense of belonging here so it depends on personal perception as every individual is unique. and yes job prospects USA is cleaarly way ahead of canada as canada is not that industrialized.
bye

Hi Pankaj,
That was a great candid reply. I am bit surprised that you weren't offered assistanship or something in the States or Canada with that kind of GRE score!
I admire your attitude - its so real and down to Earth - happiness comes from being around loved ones, and being at home! I am sure you will have a great time at Sas studying and doing research!
All the best! Cheers.

hi pankanj
This is amith from INDIA.
I have some doubts irking my mind, so may be u could suggest me out.
I got my student visa for Industrial Diploma course in Fibre Optics & Lasers at Canadian Coll. of Business & Computers, Toronto. starting this March 03.The course is for 2yrs with idustrial internship of 1yr (with a possible pay in the form of assistantship).I have got a complete fee-waiver of 19000$ too.
Actually i tried my luck first for Ms ( in Lasers) in USA , but got rejection twice( in 1 month), though i got admiss into 6 univ in US including UMASS, GWU , UIC etc with a schol of 2/3rd Fees form UIC , chicago.but they rejected saying iam a potential immigrant. my GRE -2150,Toefl -290.
I have done B.E in Electronics from Osmania Univ,Hyderabad.
I thought of Ms in Univ of Tor. too, but by the time i got a rejection from US, admis in all univ of canada were closed and i was left with little options.
So having got a full fee-waiver and may be a greater job opport after my study( the shortage of technicians in Canada ,exp Ontorio is high in my field, as per http://www.opeta.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK ) i opted for this Ind. Diploma course.Even the College representative who visted INDIA and Conducated shcol exam said the same. They also have mentioned that a transfer program is avilable with Univ of toronto for a aquiring a Ms in Physics later.
BUT still im wondering about the Level of this Diploma Course,
DO U HAVE ANY IDEA ABOUT THE DIP. COURSES IN CANADA? ARE THEY COMMON FOR EVERYONE THERE?
Do u think i will be wasting my two years to get into Masters,
And what U think about the INDUSTRAIL training of 1yr in my course, will it be accounted in some way as canadian work experiance of any sort.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONVERT MY STUDENT VISA INTO WORK PERMIT WITHOUT GOING TO INDIA, IF I COULD MANAGE TO GET A JOB after my study here.
Though i got my Visa, still i want to prepare mentally before i reach there.so may be u r idea may help me be well prepared.
hope u make some time and reply me ,
bye,
amith
