Despite Alberta's prosperity, volunteers at Calgary post-secondary campuses are bracing to feed record numbers of students -- even staff and professors -- through food bank donations and other free meal projects in the coming weeks.

"Our numbers begin to increase at this time every year," said Shereen Samuels, manager of volunteer centres at Mount Royal College.

"But already we've seen a greater need and demand for food hampers. Calgary has become an expensive city to live in, so from now until exam time, those numbers are going to go up and up," Samuels said.

I am sure most of us have seen ample abuse of welfare schemes around us. Specifically, I was once neighbour of a middle eastern family who were surviving on 'social assistance program' because the prime immigrant was a lady with 3 kids on refugee status, they get free food from food banks (enough for the whoel family for a week), allowance for grocery and even taxi fare, rent allowance and few other allowances for her and her school going kids - but they had the most expensive furniture and electronics at home, her full time hobby was to shop and weekends to entertain friends and family at home...

Reminds me of richie rich tag line.."poor little rich boy"..poverty is indeed a subjective phenomenon..

:(

Is there no system or department where we can complain against such abusers anonymously?

Dear Loser, Hi

Will you please flash some more lights on your first message. It is a matter of great concern to me as my son will be joining Mount Royal College in Sep 2007 as an Inter. student, however, our PR application is in process. I would like to know more about this situation and the college. Please reply.

Also try to change your name as it does not feel good to call someone 'a loser'.
Not necessarily a green card holder is a gainer, so how you can call youeself a 'loser'.

Koslia
