We are new immigrants to Canada, just 3 months old. We moved from the middle east, both my husband and me had very good jobs / pays. Our two boys were studying in one of the best CBSE school in the area.

One of the main reason for migrating to Canada is Children’s Education. After arriving here I was not impressed by the elementary education system. My younger son is in Grade 2 and his homework consists of writing Alphabets, (he did that in Jnr K.G in his school back home).

Yesterday, I met a pure Gora Canadian man in his fifties at my web designing classes, I ended up discussing the education system here and wanted to know where his kids studied here.

He said that his job required him to be relocated all over the world hence getting a chance to know about other countries’ education system.

He said the primary education in this country is the worst in the world, there is a teacher’s syndicate which does not allow proper grading system for the children (or the teachers), there is no marking system, the HW is not marked or corrected and many other flaws (no discipline etc).

The Universities are very good but 75% of our children do not reach the
Universities because of the high standards and half of the 25% who join drop out as their education foundation does not prepare them for tough studies and standards.

Ok back to the main question where do his children study? Well, with his experience the best primary/secondary education system which provides everything i.e high education standards, discipline, build up character, preparation for University, etc. The Canadian man’s children are studying in India, his daughter completed her 12th and returned to Canada, now studying in University of Toronto. His son is still in 11th and will return next year to join the University. He will be arriving today for his summer holidays. His son’s comments to him, ‘Dad this is the best thing you have done for us’.

I have always been of the opinion that an education in a good school in Pune,(or Mumbai) since I am from that tract, is much much better than the neighborhood school we send our children to here. Many of my friends/acquanitances are of the same opinion. I have seen several threads on this subject on this forum, so perhaps you would like to delve in further, or maybe others wish to contribute now also.
My daughter goes to MYP IB here and my nephews were just here from India on holiday as it is summer vac there and they had a laugh as to the level in the 10th as compared to that in the school they attend in India.
It all depends, the gora guy prob is sending his children to a good school there. Any ideas where?
Many years ago while studying in the US in high school, I felt the same way. Before that I was also in a US school for a year or so having come from India from the 4th standard. they put me in the 5th and saw I was too advanced and promoted me to the 6th.It hasn't changed much since.
Only the univ I went to in the US was very high potency. However at that time , I had many friends in IIT in India and they were also very good. Excellent standards then as well. Only not enough practicals. I used to tell them the theory there is damn good and they thought I was bollix. Now many years later just 'cos the Americans say so, even the Indians think so.
Sometimes I wonder why they didn't think they were good then?I know they were good. They are even better now, just like my alma mater in the US is better now. However, it is now cosidered a sub for the IIT schools. If a guy can't get into IIT in India, pack him off to a school that is considered top notch by most magazines and educational boards, but just really doesn't cut the grade.
Anyway, many years on and I still maintain India has a damn good education. How Cathedral or Campeon compares to Philips Exeter I don't know, but IIT Mumbai cuts the grade better than Cornell today. Ask Narayan Murthy.
And if IIT Mumbai is better than Cornell , it is a million light years ahead of any univ in Canada.
Please note this is my opinion and I have even voiced it in the hallowed halls of U of T and Queen's.
