The question now a days is which currency to hold on to
Euros, Indian Rupees, CAD $ or US $
the market is fluctating way too much. US $ is very iffy and looks set to drop even further.
ROI in Canada for real estate investment is not very attarctive.
or is better to invest in Gold or property in India?

What do you think is best option to retain and possibly increase the value of money?

IMHO,
I belive that having it in Indian real estate is the best options available for Desi's india provided you have some one to look after it in India. The Indian story has just started and people say that it is going to get better and better year after year. Many economists in India feel the BSE (Mumbai Stock exchange) is under valued by 20,000 points and thus we still have a long way to go. If you keep the money in Indian Rupees, then it is going to be of not that much value due to inflation.
The next best option is to have it in Euro as more and more people are threatening to convert their investments into Euro. Even OPEC members are very eager to peg the oil prices to the Euro which will give it more strength.
I belive that the boom for Gold is almost over (even if USA slips into recession). Most people are very sure that USA is going to slip back into recession but even then crude oil prices is still going to be high. Higher crude prices will translate into steady gold price or lower gold price.
I invite others to share their point of view too.

Good points TK.
I agree that indian real estate seems poised to reap in max. profit in the long run. I have spent several weeks in India during my several trips this year and have been looking at it.
However one can not discount possibility of a severe recession globally. India will also be seriously impacted. another issue is that of speculative buying and too many developers jumping in at the same time and offering properties at totally inflated amounts. Yet another huge problem is to bring back the loot here which beacuse of "black" part of it loses a lot of lusture. Plus the hassles.

I have so far betted on Euros and Gold and did make a bit of profit when it swung to 845 from 800.

I strongly feel that, all the progress of India and China is not coming from their own strength, but by the grace of WTO, with software being an exception.

Along with WTO, NAFTA and the war of Mr. Bush, American economy is sinking.

Come 2008, Democrats will take over, WTO, NAFTA, WAR will be re visited and American economy will boom again.

China and India will develop but not with the current phase.

The so called Analyst will then say, dump Developing economies, invest in the leaders.

India is alreay hot, and will remain that way for the next 3 year and then the slide will begin, If you can make it before then great ,else.....

They say
every success has a prize
every failure has a price

many think that a new president will be able to undo the damages of past 8 years and suddenly the flowers will bloom again
yeah right!
thats what the colonial powers thought after world war 2 ended and we know how wrong they were
its too late now...its all over. Only down the hill from now.
