Wines, spirits and Alcoholic beverages are controlled products and call for clearance from the Board that runs the Trade. You should contact the Chamber of Commerce on Dixon-Airport Road and get the basics of clearance requirements and importation of the same and avenues available for the sale.
Wines are currently sold even in groceries alongside of the produce and that is because the Liquor board has limited the intakes into their shelves. So, the importers are promoting their own at the groceries. But they still come under the Canada Customs purview and they may be able to help you with the preliminaries and also the duties levied on them, based on the cost price and the alcohol content.
An Initial shipment has to be brought in through them for the analysis and testing of the alcohol content and other undesirable contents and the method of preserving them in the packed state. (With inert gas) After that the process moves on smoothly through the clearing agents and people with Bonded Ware Houses.
All of the names, terms and the procedures that I have quoted here will become more evident once you get to know the trade.
As for other produce, you will have to contact the Agricultural section of the Customs Branch and get all of the details from them and the process of importation and in a few instances if the produce gets damaged due to delays in transit, then the method and the means of disposal of the same. If the perishable produce becomes toxic, then, the specific mode of destruction of the same through proper channels.
For Transportation of Fruits and produce, you will need to obtain the unripe materials and pack them in cushioning materials such as styrofoam, or corrugated card board material and Gas them to keep them from ripening and then Refrigirate them. If you strike a deal with a shipping firm that transports refrigirated cargoes to various destinations, then, find how far it could be transported, prior to it getting ripe and dispose off them at that port through a dealer or an agent at that location. The Fruits do have a shelf life and it will worth noting the same prior to entry into that kind of trade.
Hope this helps you get started in a field that you have a few contacts. They ought to be the one to train you, prior to you both getting into it.
Good Luck.
Freddie.
