I have a degree from Gujarat University earned about 15 years ago. I need to get original transcripts sent directly from the University to a current school I am considering joining. I can not find any information on how to go about getting this done - no information on Guj Uni website either. I do not have anyone in Ahmedabad who can go to the Uni office and get this done. Has anyone on this board done this before? Any ideas/suggestions/information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hello laksa,
As you asked for suggestions....
my suggestion....as you have no chance of getting them from gujrat university
you could get your degree evaluated by UFT here they ask you for a xerox copy of ur certificate thats it....and you could submit that evaluation to the school where you are intending to get an admission.i m not sure if this helps you....jab makan sedi ungli se nahi aatha tho ungli tedi karo

I sympathise Laksa. This requirement for original transcripts becomes very difficult for persons who have left university a long time ago and have no way of getting them from ourhome country. I recently used up my last set of precious original transcripts.
You could try talking to the registrar and Dean of the school you are applying to, explain your situation and ask them what acceptable alternative they would agree on (notarised degree certificate for example). If they are insistant that only originals would do it is an injustice on immigrants and refugees who cannot provide these documents and something we as immigrants should take up with the government.

Thanks for your responses. I have written to program director for affording some flexibility in their admission criteria. I had also suggested the option of getting the degree evaluated from UofT, etc. Their stand was that the requirements are universal and specified by the university's post-grad studies body. However, I have escalated my request to higher levels and it is under consideration.
The irony is in the fact that I work for UofT based on my degree - for which they did not need transcript/evaluation, etc., but when I applied for a course, they want the paperwork. So I am good enough to teach a course, but not to study! Can you beat this absurdity?
Anyways, I will keep the forum posted on how this unfolds...
Its ironical that our degrees are valid to get entry under the economic class and to find work here. I am surprised they allow you to teach here without retraining in Canada.
If you ever want to send a letter to the education minister discussing the hinderence this requirement causes for immigrants who are trying to upgrade let me know and I will join you. I am sure others would be interested in this too.
