During this weekend I was sitting with some of my friends and our discussion drifted towards University education in Canada. During this discussion I came to know a very unfortunate and shocking fact. Average dropout rate in Canadian Universities is 60% -70%, which is way too high.
When we discussed the cause behind these numbers, most of them came up with one explanation : Our schools till middle classes don’t teach much and during this time most of the students loose their interest in the education.
I would like to know what other desis think about this
Thanks and regards.

I dont know how accurate that is. Whenever i hear figures spilled out, i ask for facts?
But even the "facts" can not be accurate. Many a times have i conducted research in college for papers, the course of which i had to do stats and they were only as good as the people participating.
All that crap being said......
I feel that the figures in this case MAY be true of the current situation. Due to the elimination of OAC in High Schools, we now have 17 and 18 year olds.. yes even 16 year olds applying and getting into colleges and Universities.
Man, at that age i was still playing around... forget university. So these youngins jump from high school (which is a joke here), to such an immense responsibility and i beleive in many cases overwhelmed by just that. Thus (perhaps), leading to the dropout rate.
But then i also know 30 year olds (and other age groups), who go to Uni and find that it isnt all its made out ot be.
More and ore people are prefering the hands on of college and find they are receiving their money's worth.
To each their own i suppose.
Cheers
