Hi,

Recently I expirenced, how difficult is to get visa for India in emergency situation. Being Canadian citizen what are the option (and best one) to be able to visit India at a very short notice.

Get OCI or PIO. This will eliminate any need to get visa and you will get other benefits too.

benparsad,

The Indian consulate has provisions for emergency visitor visa for a higher fee. Was your difficult experience based on your application for emergency visa? If so, that's unfortunate. Obtaining an OCI maybe the best solution for the future.

Hi Web 2000, I will opt for either of two after studying pros and cons.
ANY effect on my status of Canadian citizen in Canada or India?
Hi Dimple, This happened in another country, I understand there would have been no problem in Canada.

Thanks for sharing.

-Ben

There will be no effect on your Canadian citizenship. I doubt that having a PIO/OCI status you may have to file your income tax return in India also if u have extended stay in India.

Thanks all for their input. I could visit India for a family emergency.
Another related point here; while exchanging money from a authorized outlet or even bank, they keep a copy of passport with signature on it. No other document is prepared and signed by me. The copy of passport is kept for any small or big amount, one copy per transaction. Any idea, if one need to report the transaction(s), consequences?

-Ben
PS- Total amount exchanged was about INR 25,000/-
