We came to Canada in 2004 from Dubai, I came first and then my wife and children joined me, after coming here my wife went to India few times as her mother was sick and passed away subsequently , consequently she was short by about 5 months for citizenship application.
Job wise initially we were never really comfortable here, and when my old employer from dubai indicated that he will hire me again whenever I am ready, I applied for citizenship for the family However only I had completed the required residency.
After waiting for a year we were called for the test, and the immigration officer there objected since my wife did not complete her stay, and then gave a whole of questionnaire, to both of us to prove our ties to Canada, we provided that information and waiting for their response.
Now fast forward to 2009, it's 5 years since we are here, While my wife and children appeared to have settled down well, I am very unhappy with my job and overall life here, and I want to run. I may also get a job in Dubai which let's me come to Canada for once in 3 to 4 months, since the whole purpose of coming here is for the children, I really do not bother about the citizenship for myself . Moreover now I feel that person with my personality India is the best, wherein I can live like a king, so I would prefer to be a PR for ever.
So my question is can I ignore my citizenship process now for myself. How can my family get the citizenship if and when they call for interview and I am out of Canada and do not/cannot come here.
Please note I have bought the house, investment etc. I do want my family to be here I am fine with PR status
I think the best option is to get citizenship and then leave. You can maintain PR only if you are in Canada for 730 days out of 5 years and then you have to be in Canada to renew your PR card.
