Can anyone suggest a labour lawyer who does not charge initial consultation fees. Mainly doing work in unlawful dismissal etc.

Need to provide info to a friend.

Thanks,
Rajiv

Please Google.
I was in the same situation and I googled and found 4 or 5 firms. most of the firms provide the first discussion for free. 2 or 3 never replied. 1 just sent a mail to contact them personally. The last one described that their first round was free and for the second round where they will send a notcie and the employer will reach an out of court settlement. The fee for that was 3 K. If it went to court, the fee would be $ 10K + actuals.
And you need documented proof if you are to ever win the case.
A complaint to the labour board (FREE and that too in Canada) would almost give the same results. The Labour board will direct the employer to pay the dues + even give him back the old job. The current wait times are 8 months.
You can do one of the 2 options only and not both.
1. Hire a lawyer
2. Complain to the labour board.
My professor at the College told me of many of his friends who filed through a lawyer and were waiting for years for their dues. He told me that his friends now wish that they went through the labour board. I assume that he was mostly speaking for the unpayment of severence / termination pay from their respective former employers and not for Depression, lost wages, mental torture money for the job lost.
Hope this helps your friend.

Peace by a PD

You can go to Labor board for pretty much any labor issues..

But getting a favorable judgement depends on how well u document ur case and clearly prove fault on behalf of the employer..
