Hi,
I applied for Canadian Citizenship in May 2009 after completing my stay of 3 years in Canada while I was living in Windsor, ON and working in Detroit, MI on H1B visa and my US Green Card was under the process.
My US Green Card came in July 2009 and I moved to USA in July 2009. My Canadian Citizenship Application went under some audit process and I responded against that. Since then, I have bought the house in USA.
I am using my friend’s address in Canada for CIC correspondence, and I have received a letter there that Judge wants to see me in person on 27th April 2010 along with all original documents.
I am trying to find out whether I can still be eligible for Canadian Citizenship after getting the US Green Card or what all are my options.
Or what is the best thing to do now?
Thanks,
Anurag
Just tell the judge the whole story and let him decide. You already have a US GC so not much to lose.
Let him decide if he wants to give you a Canadian citizenship ..

We will find a way or we will make one
Even though the application is in judge's hand, the citizenship law does not ask you to reside in Canada after applying. All you need to do is maintain your PR status throughout (till you get the citizenship) and complete the requirements for the citizenship before you apply for it.
Make sure that you do not volunteer any information if it is not asked specifically. Good luck!

Hi Anurag,
In the 3 years of physical presence in Canada, did you leave Canada anytime for long durations or travel frequently to the US?

Audit is routine and Random. The judge was surprised during my interview as to why i was called for audit. He was joking along and asking me simple questions for the Canada history / Geography test.
If you have done the three years in a five year span they have to give citizenship.

No matter what you feel about this, there is nothing like following the law to the fullest extent. Laws in each country do have an element of ambiguity at times, but I guess what we have as far as residency here is clear like a crystal glass.
Three full years or 1095 days is what one is required to be here, to get Canadian citizenship. Of course we hear of numerous stories of people who have broken this rule and yet got the citizenship.
Then I remember one gentleman who asked on this forum how to beat the rule (he left for the middle east soon after landing here, and since he bought a house, had a bank account, he wanted to know if that would be sufficient proof "relationship with Canada".
This, by the way has no relationship, comparison or bearing on the OP's post.
The way I look at this - as long as the citizenship judge is convinced that you have fulfilled the residency requirement, there is no reason for worry.
Good luck on that!!
