Some times it is difficult to get into an organization, but after Immigrating and studying for, say Doctorate, which is possible to do, and becoming a Canadian Citizen, you can get into STATSCAN... and work in their offices and retire comfortably with a very HIGH salary and a pension, depending upon the age at joining.

This is just an example of the kind of organization I am referring to but you can try Ipsos Reid

Basically survey based or market research firms.

Don't want to discourage you or anything but univeristy level math standard in Canada is very high in comparison to India. Even math teaching is very different(read superior) from India.

I would say around ISI(Indian Statistical Institute) standard at the minimum. Btw, Waterloo is the worlds largest math department, in fact a School(which has many departments!).

They were once part of U of T and became an independent university. U of T is another great school for Math. The greatest geometer of 20th century(Coxeter) was from this school.

The Fields Institute is located in this University's math dept. This is the Insitute that offers "Fields Medal" once every four years(the Nobel Prize of mathematics).

Waterloo has a very wide choice for different areas of math specialization. Acturial Math if you are comfortable with Mathematical statistics, this is one of the best in the world. Combinatorics and Optimization if you like Comp sci, Crytography, OR etc.

This is the largest depr for Comb and Optm, infact even bigger than Royal Halloway(mentioned in "Da Vinci Code" ) . They are now into Quantum computing.

Then there is a very good statistics dept. Applied math for engineering and science. The students of math depts in canada are uniformly good, so one should not take the standards lightly. Infact the widely used math software "Maple" is from Waterloo math dept.

It would do one good to go prepared before taking up any program/courses. One way to go about that would be take Professor's/Dept's permission to attend classes for a few sessions. That way you will know where you stand.

Btw, in Canada "subjects" are refered to as "courses", similarly the Canadian equivalent for "course" is "program". Better get used to these terms before speaking to dept/professor.

SAS has stat/OR/Datamining suits. Mostly inferential statitstics(Stochastic/multivariate/Time series analysis along with the usual correlation/ANOVA/Regreession tools). You are also expected to know BaseSAS and Macros programming.

There are many opportunities in Canada for Math majors, but for immigrants to crack these jobs they need to improve their communication skills. Actuaries, Market Reserchers, Financial Math etc. Domain specific knowledge helps a lot.

Thanks for such comprehensive advise, Daari_Tappida_Maaga. Really appreciated!
I understand your point that the level of education and especially application of education is far high than our country. One has to really roll up one's sleeves and work truly hard to co-op with its pace.

However, education at India is also better upto some extent and especially if we have degree in same area, I can at least get benefit of having exemption of some of courses...this will be better than starting totally new career or field.

Getting higher end and full fledged into the field is long way for sure...
I think there may steps to get to it. I would like to know those steps where we can start and get up one by one. Same way those step would be there for job positions or duties in that area...I would inquire or like to know in particular about them.

I think only a person who has gone through these may answer the best way.

thanks for all of your replies friends.
