Dear all,
If all goes well, I would be soon landing by mid October in Toronto and planning to stay in Mississauga area. Initially, I am planning to stay in a temporary accommodation until I can find permanent place to stay hopefully within 2 weeks. This will also determine which neighborhood school my kids can attend.
My children are aged 13 , 9.5 and 6 years and have completed G6, G4 and preschool respectively . Kindly advise if they may face problem getting admission in the public schools as they will miss about 8 weeks of schooling and do the schools have any additional classes for student to catch-up the missed schooling days.
Thanking you all in advance for your valuable suggestions.
Regards,
MEGUY
In public schools here in Canada, admission of kids is a matter of right. Schools have just started this month. The studies are yet to pick up. Till date no books. So your kids would be fine here, no problem. Thse people dont put too much of stress on kids, so no need to worry.

Thanks over2canada for your prompt and encouraging reply.
I have one more query i.e my son is aged 13 and is presently studying Cambridge IGCSE curriculum in Grade 7, which I believe is bit advanced as compared to Ontario public school curriculum. As per Ontario school system he should be in Grade 8 which is determined from student’s age. In your experience will he be registered in Grade 7 or Grade 8 ? I am not in favour of promotion as he will need time to adjust and adopt to the new school system etc.
Your reply shall be highly appreciated and thanking you in advance on my additional query.
Kind Regards,
MEGUY

As far as my understanding goes, a 13 year kid will be admitted in grade 7 and not 8 as grade one is for children who have completed 6 years of age.

Do not worry. They would be just fine and adjust with in no time.
Just on a separate note. Please bring their immunization records as these would be needed here. In absence of the immunization records, they may have to take some of the vaccines again.
Good Luck.
